we and many more can see that potential mate but we'll always have those who will doubt it because he didn't cost £30m from Madrid  or where ever.

watch this space, he'll be a star for us.

Not going to get excited from watching him in pre season. Pretty much all our pre season games including the one at the weekend were against poor sides.

The pre season sides have certainly been picked well - it looks like the team that will give us the toughest test will be Celtic.  Not one team around the standard of the prem teams we will be facing.

If Benitez had been allowed to buy Villa off Zaragoza before he went to Valencia we would have got him for mere buttons ,instead Valencia went
on to purchase him for 12 million .

The same with Aguero ,not all great players are sold for big fees ,Aspas has been scouted for some considerable time so all the pros and cons
have hopefully been weighed up by Rodgers and his scouts ,and both of the above players I've named prove a cherry  needs to be picked first.

In Villa's case he played 3 years for Sporting De Gijon before he went to Zaragoza for a further two years.

David Villa had 5 seasons in the top level before he was bought by Valencia and was consistent at the top level and was already playing for the Spainish Under21's.

GH tried to get him whilst at Zaragoza but it didn't materlise - Rafa was then looking at him whilst at Valencia so would have cost a damn sight more.

You can name a few players that have been bought cheap and become superstars - where as your is prob a very big group of cheapish foreign players that's have arrived and left two years later having amounted to nothing.

If Aspas works out then it's one that is out of the norm - if he doesn't it won't be a surprise.

Unfortunately the materialistic fickle fan has been dragged in by the money side of the game, whereby unless we're not buying the same players Citeh, Chelsea, Madrid, Barca, Bayern are, they'll be deemed not good enough by this criteria. It's poxy I know, especially when half the fan base preach we're a mid table club but contradict this by expecting the club to compete with said clubs.

Re Aspas (I see now the pre-season fixture list is coming under fire - an evil plot by Rodgers into fooling us how great we are), if he can carry his pre-season form into the upcoming season he'll be an important part of our success. I'm hoping he will, I bet there's a poster amongst our midst who's hoping for anything but.

:nod  I can bet  there is! I don't care if we only played grasshoppers, Celtic, Barcelona or the f'king Brown Cow pub team, a win is a win and 6 clean sheets is important too.
Ease the lads in, get the confidence up then unleash them on the league teams. sounds like a good preseason plan to me

I wish thats was true, but unfortunately its not the "fickle fans" that have made money the dominant factor for success in football.

I didn't say they had did I? I said they've fallen for the trap that if we're not buying the same kind of signings as the likes of Citeh and Madrid are it deems our players s.*i*e - see Benny's posts as an example.

Sh*t? No, but how many of them are genuine improvements over last seasons first team? Maybe papadopolous if we get him, but none of the others seem to be more than squad players. We need squad players so I dont mind them, but I wish we could get one or two players i'd be excited to see.

and now the club are getting slaughtered for the standard of opposition in pre-season? That Rodgers is doing fine job at making things look better than they are, he's deluding us all!
All round the fields of Anfield Road

Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing

pre season is really for fitness and usually the lower league sides are a little bit further into the training than the top sides, also the marketing reasons for the teams abroad. but remember olimpiakos are a team in the champions league and we will certainly play worse teams than them over the course of the season. I'm actually confident that we will do well this year, the signs from the 2nd half of last season and the pre season so far indicate that we are improving a lot. some people may not like rodgers and ive seen a few unfair comparisons with benitez, yes benitez got us into the cl regularly but it was easier to get a top 4 finish then. it used to be between man u,arsenal, chelsea us and teams like newcastle whereas no its man u,chelsea, arsenal, spurs and city, but i think we will shock a few people this year and the signings have deffo strengthened our squad (which was a big flaw last year). i still think we will have at least 1 big signing before the close of the window. remember a couple years ago we were close to being a long ball team

how about the yr we finished out of the top 4 with rafa? i vividly remember we are losing and drawing smaller teams.
