True mercenary! We paid 17,000,000 for him, he was on crazy wages, he refused to sign a new contract where we could sell him, ran down his contract and went for free. Added very little in his time with us.

Maybe a move is just what he needed to revive himself as he looked disinterested playing for us. We have a much better player in clyne now anyway.

Still all the best to him at stoke.

Never really rated Jono. Definately more of a winger than a full-back.

Good luck to him anyhow. Lets hope he scores an og in that 1st game!!

Lmao at og.. Glen did have few spark where he seemed like a formidable right back but to be honest over rated and played sloppy on many occasions.

Read the early posts. I got lots of abuse for saying he is krap. Everyone else banged on about him being English, young, fast blah blah blah. You were all wrong. Jim Beglin he wasn't.

Rubbish player and Benitez was a chump for paying 17.5m for him.

Plenty of people had reservations and voiced them.

To be fair you are negative about almost every signing we make so no surprise you got this one 'right'.

What do you want a medal? do your posts consist of anything other than so and so is Krap i told you so? for what its worth Johnson had a really good few years for us, especially when Kenny was the manager, he was awful last year but i personally have no problem with his Liverpool career, we've had a hell of a lot worse.

To be fair to Rafa he was given a bit of a Hobson's choice by Portsmouth at the time, they apparently phoned the club up and said they wouldn't be able to pay back the £12m they owed us from the Crouch deal as they were in deep financial shyte but we could have Glenn Johnson for £5m if we wanted him.
Johnson was a high profile player back then and the way LFC looked at it was we aren't getting the Crouch money back whatever happens so we may as well try and make the most of a bad situation.
If Portsmouth wouldn't have gone under its highly unlikely that Johnson would have ever played for us.
