Gerrard for fifa world player of the year? - Player of the year 2005

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby mramo » Fri Jul 15, 2005 4:16 pm

I know this is quite many months away - To my knowledge I see Steven Gerrard edging out the possible contenders like Frank lampard, John Terry & Shevchenko etc...

Its not how good he is on a world scale because we know how class Stevie G is! The following are qualities for an individual to be nominated for a World Player of the year award.

So what he has done for us in the last season? First of all, Gerrard had to carry a huge load on his back - with a depleated 1/2 squad plagued with injuries throughout the season & but his postion as captain - to drive, to motivate & to energise his belief & spirit into his teammates - is what kept the team bonded as a unit.

The moment his arrowed shot hit the back of the net in the 3-1 victory against Olympiakos, even he thought that his destiny was written and that he had a mission to excel come end of the season. Had it not been for his cruical goals - His spirit to lift his teammates in the European final & his loyality to the club - I wouldnt see Stevie G nominated for any kind of award.

Now I am so sure that he will win World Player of The Year in 2005.

How do you lot feel? Agree or Differ?

He deserved the award in 2003/2004, he was immense, but last season he was very inconsistent, and his unsettled state came through in many of his performances.

Carra for World player of they year maybe, but Stevie G... ???

I dont know what team you were watching last season, but for me it was the complete opposite. he had a bad attitude and i feel that this often rubbed off on the players, when he began to huff and puff in a game if he didnt like the way things were going, the whole teams performance would drop.

Loyalty - Are you forgetting he almost left last week?? let alone last year too!!!

One of the dumbest threads yet.

Do you watch football?

Carragher was far and away LFC's best player last season but you seem to think the SG was the best player in the whole world. The fact that he himself admits he was below par doesn't influence you?

Maybe a hat trick against a welsh pub team swings it for you?

Unbelievable.

Footballer of year isnt based on just a few great goals.  Gerrard's goals against olympiakos, middlesbrough, and AC Milan were impressive, but he was inconsistent during many matches last season.  You have to be consistent and occasionally very outstanding to win awards.  I expect ronaldihno to win it again this year.
