like boodiddy explained, if we end up paying £5m for him then we will have just lifted no.19 - savvy?

is it official yet anyway, has he defo arrived?

i aint talking about city and barloteli

james milner (18 yrs old) cost £5m
robbie keane (19) was £6m
Jenas (18) - £5m
Walcot (17) - £5m (raising to £12m
Ramsey (18) - £4.8m

and Rodwell is being touted at double figures.

£2-5m could be a bargain, even at that age. This is football  and nothing's definate, ie he wont definately make it big, but my point is it's not too much for an 18yr old

No the fees a p!ss in the wind as long as he's not absolutely garbage. If he turns out to be not quite of the required standard, we'll always be able to flog him to West Brom or somebody for a couple of mill (which is about what we'll have paid for him if he isn't up to it).

Being Scottish and watching SPL games regularly I can honestly say this guy is a quality defender. He needs to be playing beside an experienced centre half tho - as he did with Davie Weir at Rangers last season. To be honest I think he is our new Carra, as we all know (with great regret) Carra is getting on a bit and we can no longer expect him to keep up with the pacey strikers we face both in the EPL and Europe. I would like to see him feature quite a bit this season - if Roy does not plan to play him then I agree with Boodiddy1, loan him back to gers even if it's just for the 1 season as at least that way he will gain more CL experience. OK, maybe only the group stages but hey - that's better than only playing in say the Carling cup for us!!!  I would like to see us play with 3 Centre Backs anyway - but that's another topic/discussion so I will leave my thoguhts/explanations out of this thread.

Main point is - Wilson (if he plays) will be a great asset.

Midfielders and strikers usually cost more than deffensive players.Getting Keane for those money back then was a real steal. At that age he already had about 90 appearences and 30 goals for only 2 years.Walcott had few goals and assists at his early 17 and Milner was a strating regular at Leeds.Wilson had like 20 games last year in a much weeker league. At that age we already knew Milner, Keane, Walcott and they all got sold for a fee close to the fee that we are about to give for this Wilson guy. Then again, these days players are more expensive than they were in the past, but still, I wouldnt give more than 2.5 - 3 mil for an 18 year old deffensive kid that only Rangers fans know that he exists.Anyway, I dont know why we are arguing for a fee as low as 5 mil :D, should have never brought it up :).

we should start him alongside skrtel in the carling cup and early europa rounds to see how he does then, take it from there, as for jamie carragher, he's just about had his day, maybe get one last season of top level out of him, but beyond that i cant see anything tbh

The lad is class. A potential future national skipper. Will prove to be a steal at £5M.

We could do worse than sticking him soon. An old head on very young shoulders.

I think this season might be Jamies last full season but this Wilson boy is a direct replacement. top signing.

I wouldn't be so sure about Carra just yet mate. There is life in the old dog yet  :)

Reckon Carra and Wilson would be a decent combo

Wilson is a very talented youngster. He needs to get chances now with Carra at his side. Better than Skrtel and potentially a future captain

Roy Hodgson will ask the 18-year-old Danny Wilson to deputise for Jamie Carragher against Steaua Bucharest tomorrow after it was confirmed the Liverpool defender faces as long as three months out with a dislocated shoulder.

Carragher suffered the injury towards the end of Liverpool's defeat at Tottenham on Sunday and had hoped to recover through a six-week rest period. However, following a MRI scan on Merseyside today and consultations between Liverpool's medical department and specialists, it was decided the 32-year-old needs an operation that could sideline him until March.

The Liverpool vice-captain said: "I'll be having surgery at the end of the week. The average is about 12 weeks. I'd like to come back before that but I've got to make sure it's right. It will probably be late February or early March when I'm looking to come back."

Dr Peter Brukner, the club's head of sports medicine and sports science, said: "We decided it was the best option because not having the surgery leaves you with a very high risk of the dislocation happening again – probably more than 50%. We weren't prepared to take that risk."

With Daniel Agger not expected to return from a calf injury until just before Christmas, Liverpool now have only two established centre-halves available for a demanding spell – Martin Skrtel and Sotirios Kyrgiakos. Hodgson will therefore turn to Wilson, who has made only one appearance since arriving for an initial £2m from Rangers in the summer – the Carling Cup embarrassment against Northampton Town – for the Europa League tie in Romania.

"Martin Kelly and Danny Wilson will start against Steaua Bucharest and it's a great opportunity for them to stake a claim to be in the first team," said the Liverpool manager, who may recall Daniel Ayala from a loan spell at Hull City. "Not being able to take the points we deserved against Tottenham has kept us in a mid-table position so the next games coming up are going to be very important. I've got to be careful not to risk too many of the players I want out on the field against Aston Villa [on Monday]."

Fernando Torres will be left behind for a game Liverpool need only to draw to qualify for the knockout stage. Hodgson said: "Torres won't travel. I can leave maybe as many as six or seven players who I expect to start against Aston Villa out of the team. It means on paper I'm taking a weakened team, but I believe people like Joe Cole, Ryan Babel, Milan Jovanovic, Wilson, Christian Poulsen and Jonjo Shelvey are more than capable of doing a good job."

Brukner has confirmed Steven Gerrard is on schedule to recover from a hamstring tear in time for the trip to Newcastle United on Saturday week. The Liverpool captain sustained the injury playing for England against France a fortnight ago and, while Monday's home game with Villa is likely to come too soon in his recovery, he is expected to be back in full training next week. "Steven's going well. He's back running, though not back in training," Brukner said. "He's certainly looking good to play the Newcastle game, which has been our target all along. We're hoping he'll be back in training at the start of next week. Everything's gone to plan."

Cole will make his first appearance since 31 October against Steaua. The former Chelsea midfielder had recovered from a hamstring strain before the visit to Tottenham only to suffer a knock in training on the eve of the game. "Joe is in full training and is available for the Europa League game. He'll be travelling to Bucharest," Brukner said. "He just had a minor injury in training on Saturday, which combined with the fact he was coming back after his hamstring problem meant we decided not to risk it. He'll be 100% for Thursday night."

This is his perfect chance to shine.  If he's as good as people are saying, then maybe he'll take Carragher's place for good.
