Crouch cannot head the ball

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Bad Bob » Sun Jan 21, 2007 3:05 pm

So we beat one of our arch-rivals 2-0 to move within 5 points of second place and all some people want to do is bring up a well-aired niggle with one of our better players on Saturday?  WTF ???

Get off the lad's back.....

He's done more than enuff since we got him to prove that he's an asset.... sure he's heading needs improving but the rest of his game is pretty damn good. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and it's plainly apparent that heading for goal is not one of Crouchie's strengths.

But the "rake" sure knows how to play to his strengths.... he's got 12 goals to date and is our top scorer... better than everyone else in the team and he hasn't played as often as our so called "main" strikers....

He brings a lot to the table does Crouchie..... time to focus on his strengths rather than his weaknesses...... The lad gets too much stick on here imo but that's just my opinion....

I wasn't too pleased myself when we 1st signed him but I can honestly say, he's repaid the 7 million quid we paid for him... :blues:

i think only one person is actually critcising and saying get rid of him, the rest of us are giving a good reason why his heading is weak so chill out

i would argue that its not so much his headed power and technique that is the problem - although there is definite room for improvement - but his placement. the positions for heading he takes up are so good that he doesn't need to power it as long as he doesn't just head it into the arms of the keeper. have to say he's got a good touch for a big lad though.

That's correct Peewee, and I cannot argue that. At least my comment was talking about the original post of the thread, and similar ones that appear when we lose a match, not yours.

yeah no problems sabre, i think most of us are treating it as a joke thread.

crouch is an asset to the team, he is a much better player than i first thought, his ground control is good, his real weakness though is his heading for goal

im sorry, he is class, but his first touch when a long ball comes in can be abysmal... but then it can be genius. when its bad tho the ball bounces off him like a... very bouncy thing...

but he is a definate asset to the team

A body like Crouch's has Advantages and disadvantages.

He cannot jump much but he can touch the ball (not for finishing but to pass the ball) without jumping. If you look at the opposition defenders many of them preffer to let him touch the ball and are aware of the second chance, rather than jump with Crouch to win the challenge. That's an asset for the team.

Crouch's limitations are no different to other players. Alonso is an asset, but have you ever seen him dribbling or running with the ball much? No.

Crouch's limitations are more famous quite simply because he's very tall and all that, but for what is worth, the lad has his abilities like any other player.

I say after this we could start a thread on Dudek can't save a thing or Fowler can't run or Pennant doesn't score any goals. What?
RIP Drummerphil YNWA
