granted, they still had some decent wins in that period but they were by the skin of their teeth, spurs totally outplayed them at old trafford and were unlucky not to get 2 pens.

Well said man utd look like a team that would surely fracture with the loss of few key players. Their squad depth does look a bit on the shaky side when it comes down replacements for key players. But I have been on the receiving end of many arguments stating the same about us with the likes of Stevie G. Would we be the same attacking threat without him. Barring weak op (like derby) would we be able to hold out?

we`ve had a few decent results when gerrards been injured, like that 3-1 win over leverkusen in the champions league back in 2005 (the game when dudek dropped that last minute clanger which everyone thought might cost us in the away leg!) but no doubt we are a stronger outfit with him in the team.
my point is that all the top sides seasons can take a nosedive with one or two critical injuries (like chelsea last year) where as in the past united especially used to take them in their stride.
there`s a lot of life left in this title race yet, anything can happen.
harold mcmillan famously said a week is a long time in politics and its similar in footy, look at peter crouch, early on in the season it looked like torres and kuyt would be our main striking partnership for most of the season but one or two injuries and some loss of form later crouchy`s star is back on the rise.
we have been on a shaky run but we are unbeaten and well in the mix, usually by now we are 12 points behind or something, all`s we have to do is stay in touch until easter and then anything can happen.
