Chris coleman to spain - I know fúck all about him

He's strongly rumoured to be the next Real Sociedad coach.

Despite coaching Wales, Toshack is reported to be moving the decissions surrounding the club, and apparently he has proposed Chris Coleman, former Fulham Coach for Real Sociedad.

All I know is that he was sacked.

Can tell me anyone, anything about this man's managing style and personality?

Thanks!

I can't say too much about him as i don't follow Fulham too much but before this season he was doing pretty well and tipped to get better jobs. As a manager he got on well with his players who called him by his nickname 'Cookie', but that aside he was't a soft touch or anything.

From the outside he seems a good man manager but things seemed to slide in the last season. I'm sure he'll do well, especially as he's still very young.

He seems a decent, HONEST manager, who has had to try to build a side at Fulham while they continually sold their best players season after season. He kept them in the Prem while losing most of their "star" players and having very little money for replacements. Ideal for a club struggling with little or no money, maybe even for a club with some money as he seems to have an eye for a bargain.

Maybe has a problem with tactics and motivation as Fulhams away form was always poor while their home form was exceptional by comparison. Good manager.

Thanks for that insight, much appreciated. He seems what we need, although he will need a sidekick to bear with the language barrier.

I know he was lucky to escape this, even though it ended his playing career. And had a reporter tell him that his loony wife had bugged his car ( James Bond style !)

As far as the football side goes, I always found him a decent no-nonsense Manager , he also did well with limited funds ( despite Al Fayeds fortune) he had to make do with a lot of loan players or Bosmans aswell as losing some of his better players in Malbranque,Boa Morte and Van Der Saar

I think Coleman's a brilliant manager, given the budget he was on, to keep them up year after year was unbelievable in my book. I'd be surpirsed if he goes to Spain, it's not often you see British managers go abroad, and to a 2nd division side seems a bit strange.

Well, Real Sociedad isn't exactly Fulham despite his last three seasons, and is in the selected group of teams that have won both la liga and the cup. 40 years in a row in primera, top notch facilities, and known for paying in time. Economically is the 10th team of Spain, so if he does well and goes up, he'll have an excellent club to work in.´

The rumour is almost a fact now. Toshack is the man who has vouched for Coleman.

Good luck to him if he moves, he's an honest hardworking man with a lot of ability and still very young, one of the best young managers you can find. He doesn't mess about, he's a strong character and an excellent motivator. I was surprised he wasn't lined up for the Man City job but they went for the more glamorous option of Sven.

Due to the Welsh connection Tosh would be a pretty good judge of Colemans ability. He was his manager at Wales if only for 41 days :D

I thought he did a great and very underrated job at Fulham. Each year they would sell off there best players and give him only a few million to spend, and each year I would tip them to go down, but each year they would survive with time to spare.

Sometimes he came out with some rather bizarre comments in the press and seemed too honest and straight forward for his own good, but his players seem to like him.

I definitely thought he would get a chance at a more ambitious club than Fulham.

Coleman Sociedad talks
By SIMON CASS -

Last updated at 21:12pm on 26th June 2007

Former Fulham manager Chris Coleman will today hold talks about the vacant coach's role at Spanish side Real Sociedad.

Coleman has been recommended by Wales boss and former Sociedad manager John Toshack, who rejected the chance to return to the Basque club as sporting director

Toshack turned down the role due to his commitment as manager of Wales, but remains a respected figure at Sociedad — having managed them on three occasions — and has given club directors a glowing report on his countryman Coleman.

Since being sacked last season by Fulham, Coleman has been linked with a number of posts in England, including Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

However, the former Swansea City, Palace, Blackburn and Fulham defender has spoken in the past about his desire to buck the trend of foreign managers flooding into the English game by testing himself abroad.

Reviving Sociedad's fortunes would certainly provide the 37-year-old with such a test, after the side from San Sebastian slipped into the Spanish second division for the first time in 40 years last season.

Their relegation prompted the resignation of manager Miguel Angel Lotina, who has since taken over at Deportivo La Coruna.

The language barrier would obviously represent a problem to Coleman, who does not speak Spanish.

At least, however, Coleman will not be hampered by the club's former policy of only signing players with Basque heritage.

That stance was abandoned in 1989 with the capture of John Aldridge from Liverpool.

Aldridge went on to score 32 goals in 63 games for Sociedad, who have also had Englishmen Dalian Atkinson and Kevin Richardson in their ranks.

Should Coleman decide to follow the likes of Sir Bobby Robson, Terry Venables, Howard Kendall and Ron Atkinson by moving to Spain, he is likely to be joined in San Sebastian by Toshack's Wales assistant and former Sociedad boss Salva Iriarte, who has been lined up to take over as sporting director.

A decision on Coleman's appointment is likely to be taken this Saturday at a meeting of the board of directors.

Looking good, should find out Saturday.

No matter the "official truth" says Toshack won't control the team because he's coaching Wales, this photo taken yesterday in a supposed "holliday trip" of Toshack says it all

The deal is done, and if the board receives the back of stockholders on saturday (it's likely) then it will be done. He'll be the new coach unless a new board comes.

I've got a lot of time for Coleman - good, honest, down-to-earth young manager that deserves another chance.

He's still learning his trade, but in the short time he's had in management he put together some well-balanced, not unattractive sides.

I wish the guy well, and if he does get quick promotion, I can see him carving a decent little career for himself in European management. I think him and Real Sociedad are a good match, personally.

The agreement is complete but this is the project of the current Board and in Saturday there's a stockholders meeting. I think the current board will make it to continue as there's not consistent opposition.

For what I've read of you and seen of the lad I'm very happy with the signing up.

Coleman visited yesterday Zubieta, the Melwood counterpart, which is one of the best training facilities in Spain (top 5 facilities), I guess Toshack wanted to convince him that way. RS is the perfect club for him, he'll have a prolific youth system at his disposal, good training facilities, and definitely more money than other clubs.

The segunda is a physical division, with hard tackles and in which strenght is important, so it won't be too unfamiliar for him. It seems he's the right man.
