Very pleased with the performance though obviously not with the result
Disappointed though with some of missed chances, really should have buried one of them
Good effort to mix it with one of world's best

I'll second that.

I thought the referee was a bit quick to give free kicks for dubious fouls...especially those ones in which we were the front player.

The good news is that none of our 'yellow card' players received a second card. I thought Grella was a bit fortunate (not to get a card) in his first half studs up challenge on Ronaldo...or maybe Ronaldo was just too slow to get out of the way.

Yeah very happy with yellow card situation.
Grella was very lucky that ref had played advantage and then took it back and it was early in the match as it was definately raised foot

The referee was a total Brasilian a'rse kisser , lost count of the number of times he blew for a foul when an aussie player was doing no more than "harassing" a Brasil player who was in possision .
Think the ref was overawed by Brasils reputation and gave them far too much protection .
On the other hand his day job is a dentist, maybe he was trying to sign up some new patients .

With what we showed tonight we have the necessary means to finish   Croatia's world cup for them.

:D

On the other hand, he gave the Brazilians some "disputable" yellow cards, I mean he could have not given them if he was an a'rse kisser, as you say

On the strength of our performance tonight (AM here) Australia can stand tall. A little bit of luck our way and the result could have been slightly different. Either way Australia has earned the respect of the footballing world. All power to Brazil, they deserved the win but I don't think Australia need fear any team in the world.

Before you all howl me down, I'm not suggesting we are going to win the world cup this time or even next but we have done well enough for people to take us seriously in any future matches.

Well done Guus and all the lads.

The referee was a fcuking disgrace... freekick after freekick for the over-rated brazilians... are footballers not even allowed to challenge for the ball nowadays?  Probably not... we're all supposed to sit back and give the south american teams loads of space so they can do their tricks.... its good for tv!

Anyway it was very hard luck on Australia who I thought were superb  - I hope we (England) can show the same kind of committment in our next games with a bit more luck up front than Australia had.

Love the way Kewell had a real go at the referee, but having said that, I hope Kewell won't be in too much trouble from that.

and having seen Brazil's performance tonight, there's no way they will win the world cup with that sort of form.

Agree 100%, very well played Australia. Hiddink has turned the team into a very well organised team, which is very hard to break down and also offers some flair going forward with the likes of Kewell, Cahill and Bresciano.

Croatia are gong to come out all guns blazing as they have to win, but on the evidence of tonight Australia can definitely get through.

Ronaldo should not be starting for Brasil, they have looked so much better in both games when Robinho has come on. Ronaldo is stagnant up front, and Adriano's greetest strength isn't his movement, so Brasil look a little lacklustre up front at times. Robinho offers pace, skill and good movement off the ball, and Brazil look a better side with him and Adriano working together up front, I feel they compliment each other better, and Ronaldo is definitely not the player he once was.

In fact I think Ronaldo has just played his last game for Brazil. Sad end to a brilliant career...not sure what the story is there. He's only ever had one decent World Cup tournament.

I was surprised Croatia didn't come out with 'all guns blazing' against Japan. That would have been the obvious idea then they would only need a draw against Australia (assuming Brazil took the match against Oz). Now it's Australia who just needs to avoid the loss against Croats.

Well done to Australia.  Great performance against the World Champs and were unlucky not to earn at least a draw, I thought.  Too bad our Harry missed a sitter when Dida spilled!

A draw or win against a mediocre Croatian side is very doable and it would be a great thing for world football to have Australia through to the final 16.

(Concerning the ref, I agree that things really seemed to all go Brasil's way in the 2nd half.  Merck is one of the best refs in the world so I was quite disappointed with his decision making.)
