Good night.

Sorry for you, Aussies, you were robbed!!

But you can hold your heads up high.      :nod

i'm gutted for australia but lucas neill should know better. as a defender, as soon as you go to ground in the penalty area you're asking for trouble. an italian defender would never have gone to ground in that situation in a million years. it still was never a penalty though, just like materazzi's red card was never a straight red.

the aussies were still disappointing though. they were a breath of fresh air in the group stages because they threw men forward and attacked all the time. yesterday against ten men, i just didn't see an urgency from them to want to go and win the game.

To be honost, I think Australia did not deserve to go through. I am a proud Aussie and am absolutely gutted that we lost to the Italians. But against 10 men, we didn't push for the win within the 90 min. We played at a snails pace and the Italian's attacking (though on the counter) was more dangerous than our own.

I hate saying what if's etc, but if Harry played, I'm sure we would have came out with the result (red card or no red card). We have no flair players other than Harry or Archie Thompson and I think we played a very dull game. I think Australia should never call up Wilkshire again no matter the situation (albiet, it was one of his better games, but he is a shyte passer of the ball) and play with a bit more risks.

Playing against 10 men and not go for it with everything really riled me up after I watched it full again. Still haven't gotten over the lost, how we lost and how we played. (all credit to Italy though, masters defence it seems)

Sigh...bring on 2010.

and...

I'll show you my Australian if you show me your Brazilian :D

There's isn't a huge difference with 1 man down, they still have the 4 defenders at the back, so we still had trouble scoring. They are only short on the front.

In a nutshell .

Hard luck you Aussies , the really sad thing for you is that I doubt if you'll EVER get a better chance to make the last eight than the one you had this time around .

Agreed and with Italians being the masters of catching you on the break if we had attacked in numbers and been caught out.  People would have made note of our tactical naviety against class opposition.
I could see where we were waiting for extra time with Italians having 10 men since 50 minute mark and 3 cards already handed out to their players. You would have favoured our chances the longer the game went. Alas it wasnt meant to be.
