Are you of the opinion he doesnt for us these days mate ?

I do think he raises the level for certain fixtures and has done for awhile...a few people need to remove the captain marvel goggles and replace them with a reality check

I was at the game and I wouldn't say that SG did more or less than he needed to when playing for Liverpool. Lots of time in the second half when he sat back and did what he had to do. He played very well but he didn't bust a gut unlike Andros Townsend who certainly did and was MOTM for me. SG still has a lot of game to offer. It just has to be controlled. I can live with that. I certainly haven't joined the RBG camp just yet.

His desire to be England's Captain Marvel will and is , already having a detrimental affect on his performances for Liverpool....

I think that's pretty harsh to be honest mate.
Like Devaney has said he does have to pick moments in the game now to burst forward and be the all action player he was previously. But I dont think he is not putting a shift in or putting in more of an effort for England or bigger LFC fixtures.
The problem for me is he is playing too often for someone of his age in a position where there is no hiding place.
I'd be resting him at times and bringing him off at times also.
By 70 minutes on most games this season he has been shattered and for me Rodgers isnt managing him as well as he could.
I'd rather a fully fit and firing Steven for 2 thirds of the games than a tired Steven that plays 90 minutes week in week out.

it`s strange watching players leave gerrard in their wake when they run with the ball (which happened a couple of times last night), in his pomp he was not only supremely gifted but a real athlete too, in his prime he has got to be the quickest CM i`ve ever seen, he`d regularly run down and catch even the likes of christiano ronaldo from behind and get a crucial tackle in.

The 11 best players wont always win you a match hence why Cardiff beat city.

Gerrards best position is in the lucas role thats why i opted him to play in our home games alongside Hendo.

Henderson in the past say 10 matches has been our best midfield.

Btw what are the 3 games Geerard has had that effect

Manchester United, Villa and Sunderland.

Sunderland he set two goals up, against the Mancs he was absolutely head and shoulders above the rest first half and Aston Villa he was also the best player on the pitch by a mile.

Lucas and Henderson have done what exactly?

You're going on about different sorts of players needed agaisnt other sides, well I'm sorry, but thats garbage. You play you best players. As for Gerrard's "questionable stamina" I've been watching very closely in his last couple of matches and I'm sorry but its complete nonsense. He's still got plenty to offer.

"I have had some wonderful nights as Liverpool captain and I remember the night when Roy phoned me to tell me I was going to be the permanent captain. The feeling I got when that goal went in tonight, that feeling was maxed."

i agree, rodgers isnt really helping him.
the likes of scholes, giggs and sheringham played for on for donkeys years but ferguson protected them by regularly bringing them off (or on) and limiting their minutes on the pitch.
the prem is by far the quickest league in the world and it`s hard going for a 33 year old who has had plenty of injuries and miles on the clock to play 90 minutes week in week out for 9 months of the year. gerrard has played 639 games for liverpool in all competitions and another 100+ for england which is an astonishing amount of games considering he`s never been one of those players who comes on with 20 minutes to go and notches up another appearance.
in the vast, vast majority of those 639 games for LFC gerrard played every single minute of the 90 and covered every blade of grass on the pitch too.
he`s probably ran 5,000 miles in a red shirt, tough to compete with 23 and 24 year olds athletically when you`ve got that type of wear and tear on your body.

So because he's lost a couple of yards of pace and mobility that makes him a bad player?

He's gone from world class, to the same sort of "standard as Lucas and Henderson"?

Behave yourself. He's still England's best midfielder and he's still Liverpool's best midfield player by an absolute mile.

Anyone that can't see that is watching the wrong sport.

I think 99% of his fans realise he's no longer the player he was but he's still a top player.

Waning physical prowess aside. Given many of us have expressed concern about his recent mental attitude, "no celebration after scoring a pen the other week" and "not busting a gut for us"  etc, it'll be interesting to see if we'll get a "mentally" rejuvenated Gerrard for the rest of this season now that  pressures of captaining his country to World Cup qualification are out of the way .
