I, and others have mentioned a £40m + Alonso deal. I don't know if its doable, but I'd love to see it. We could use extra depth in the middle and Alonso is a world champion. Not only that, he loves us, we love him and the symbolism of reuniting Gerrard and his mate would surely leave a sweet taste even if Suarez went the other way.
I'm sure the option will have been considered, and maybe BR is already looking at Alonso.
But there's always reasons that haven't occurred to us, and maybe there are reasons Alonso won't fit with us anymore.
