PEPE REINA - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Benny The Noon » Tue Jul 30, 2013 12:54 pm

I would hope that Liverpool Fans would know about Reinas history and Gerrards hatred of Manc - im not sure what other fans have to do with anything - its all about how Liverpool fans react. In fact i expect even most people outside Liverpool would know of Gerrards hatred of the Mancs and most would know Pepes history with Barce - im not sure if you knew about his history with Barce and i still dont see how you could try and compare Gerrard stating its an honour to play for the Mancs !

Again your post stated that Pepe publicly stated that Pepe would prefer to play for Barce and i aksed where the statement is ? As it turns out he didnt state anything publically like you said in your post ( remember you were the one to lecture me about facts ) .

Now other stuff that Pepe has said is all open to interpretation . I remember once Torres said he would love to play for Atletico again that didnt bother me - just like it didnt bother me that Pepe would love to play for Barce again at some point - i understand his reason why. I also remember that Pepe has had chances to leave whilst we have gone through turmoil but instead actually signed a new contract. I also understand that Pepe now has a connection with the club and the fans and was open  with both the fans and the club and the club werent open to him.

So back to the original point that i asked - Has Pepe publically stated he would prefer to play for Barce over us - the answer is no he hasnt.

Pepe wanted to stay at liverpool, unless Barca asked for him.

BR had the chance to sign a good replacement this window so he did.

Pepe may have taken the huff a little.

If you are incapable of accepting that Pepe said that an offer from Barca would be TOO GOOD TO TURN DOWN doesn't mean his preference would be to play for Barca then as usual you are arguing for the sake of it. Just for once accept that you are wrong and move on. Just what else can a statement like that mean?

I have no intention of debating this any further because as usual we see things very differently.

Pepes statement said he informed Liverpool that if an offer came from Barca he would like to talk to them, while also stating he wanted to extend his contract. What's the point in the latter if Barca come knocking? A nice signing on fee perhaps? I've no problem with his affinity to Barca, he can go and play back to them and I wish him all the best but if he's saying he'd like to talk to them if they made an offer then we have to protect ourselves and have a replacement if such a bid comes to fruition as we don't know if and when said bid will (or won't) be made. Simple

As redno7 says, he's taken a huff and has little room to complain, he effectively made his own bed on this one. Also bearing in mind he's not exactly top of his trade right now

i would have thought the signing of Mignolet was a fairly candid response from the club. Reina tried to take the p1ss and got called on his bluff, tough sh1t Reina take it like a man not a litle girl crying to the media. Now maybe we have a keeper who can stop a shot when its one-on one becuase I can't think of many goalies worse than Reina at that. there is a reason why he's never even got near to the Spanish team.

He's spitting his dummy out basically. I wanted to move to Barca, if I can't move there I don't want to move anywhere. Give me a break.

So you're gonna twist and turn the facts until you get the answer to suit your argument? what else your stubborn mind still don't understand? or you're just happy to take the p1ss and argue your way over here?

Look this man is a very well paid professional, someone who is well adored by the fans, played and bounded under a long-term contract & will be well taken cared of until the end of his professional career by the club and yet he sees it fit to want to break his contractual obligation and fish for a move elsewhere. The club acted correctly and replaced him. When his dream move turned south, he asked for a contract extension to safe guard his own interest. The club refused and loan him out to get rid of his ridiculous wage bill and so now he comes back and take the moral high ground? Like some said, he could easily refused and stayed on to fight but he knew the writing was on the wall and so he just packed up and leave. To tuned back now and claim the club acted unfairly, never gave him his chance to say goodbye etc is just bullsh1te...looked you said your goodbye the day you made your intention to wanna play for Barca clear. If Barca were to bid for him, do you think he will even think of his goodbyes?

In my book, the club acted exactly as I would have done. Far too many players nowadays are too happy to turn their back on their contractual obligations just to get more of what they want. The paying fans' blind fate in supporting these players are not been reciprocated so it is just bad taste to complain in the open when they don't get their way.

All said, I still love Reina (and Alonso) to bits and the two of them are the finest of Benitez's signings. It's sad it ended this way but Reina will always be a legend in my book  :buttrock

Reina said in his letter that he wanted the club to consider offers from Barca, if they ever came. So Benny, I really don't understand your argument about Reina not having any preference to play for Barca. Why would he mention it in his letter if he didn't? Add to that his father talking non-stop, his agent telling us to expect a bid and Pepe never denied anything, there was little our club could do.

A poster was basically stating that Pepe had said publically that he preffered to play for Barce instead of us - all i did was ask when Pepe has stated this before he mentioned it in the letter as i couldnt remember Pepe ever saying such a thing

Publicly or not, it doesn't matter really. As he states in his letter, the club were informed by Reina himself that he would like them to consider offer from Barca.

As much as I love him and respect him, he did this to himself. Time to move on.

The main problem I have is the way the club acted - Pepe asked them to consider any offer from Barce - that's Pepe being open to them - So Pepe is being honest to them - and yet they arranged a loan without telling him. Also BR has stated that he told Pepe "Months ago that he would be signing a GK to give him competition" - so BR was after a GK regardless of what Pepe said. He then states that the two will fight out for the number 1 slot and then sends him out on loan !

His candour, what about his commitment?

His form was well on the wane and given his candour it's fair to deduce his commitment wasn't there anymore, is this what a new manager wants when he already has the arduous task of getting LFC back into the CL - it will take a shed load of commintment and then some to achieve this. Do you really advocate this club become a feeder mat for sentimental reasons? Naive you to think otherwise.
