Is this the same Benitez who wanted to replace Xabi Alonso with Gareth Barry and who spent £20m on Robbie Keane? Who sold Arbeloa for a miserly £2m and then wasted £18m on Glen Johnson? Who signed Aquilani for £20m and never played him? Who sold Michael Owen for peanuts and brought in rubbish like Josemi and Nunez? I like Benitez as much as you do, but he wasn't perfect in the transfer market. My views of him in the transfer market is of someone who wasted a lot of money on stop-gaps and rubbish. Who sold good players and replaced them with utter rubbish.

As for Ferguson, he has made a lot of bad signings as well, also what is your obession with United? You're always harping on about them, you sound as bad as an Evertonian harping on about our club.

are you honestly trying to blame benitez for the owen situation?
and the alonso situation wasnt great but they happen, players and managers fall out all the time, bob paisley fell out with jimmy case and sold him when he had years left in him. case famously came back to anfield with brighton and knocked us out of the f.a cup, that was back in the days when we lost 1 home game every 2 seasons and whatsmore he ran the midfield, you could count on one hand the games where graeme souness was dominated by an opposition midfielder but that was one of them. case was a brilliant player, a 3 times european cup winner and we sold him when he was 26.
i could go right through all your examples but i wont bother, all i will say is that benitez took this club to 2 CL finals, a semi final and a quarter final in 6 years, he beat the likes of barcelona, real madrid and inter milan on their own grounds and had us standing toe to toe with clubs like united and chelsea who had far more resources than us.
united pipped us to the title by just 4 points when they had a frontline of ronaldo, tevez and rooney, and although people remember that we beat them home and away that season (including a 4-1 win at old trafford when the pressure was on) what people often forget is that steven gerrard and fernando torres only played as a pairing in half the games that season.
he couldnt have been that bad in the transfer market.

Give it up.

Benitez had so many advantages.

1. Much better owners than today... oh no, sorry
2. He had so much more money than Kenny and Rodgers... oh no, sorry
3. he bought just as many expansive failures as Comolli and Kenny... oh no, sorry
4. The players he bought didn't devlop to become world class... oh no , sorry
5. The sell on value of the players he brought to the club was poor and we didn't benefit from that at all.... oh no, sorry
6. Well, at least he couldn't even bring us the title when Manure and Chelski was ***** money away, what a failure...

LOL that people even compare Benitez to Rodgers. They are miles apart in terms of quality. Every manager makes misstakes but Rodgers record is horrible at the moment. Benitez worst season was much better than this.

here`s a positive note for sunday, we have won 5 of our last 6 encounters against chelsea and won our last 3 games at stamford bridge.
we have the chance to make it 4 wins on the bounce at one of the toughest grounds in football.
incidentally we havent managed to string 4 back to back wins together on our own ground since rafa`s final season, near the end of rafa`s time here we strung together 9 successive home wins.

Its one thing comparing managers but the club has change shape so often in recent years none of them
has worked in the same enviroment.

Rodgers today is not afforded the same budget as a young Benitez for example and we are in a very
different place now to then.

hodgson played chelsea in his 11th league match on the 7th of november 2010 and won, it left us with the `grand` total of 15 points from 11 games.
coincidentally brendan will also play chelsea in his 11th league match in charge on sunday, he currently has 11 points from 10 games so if we win he`ll be a point behind roy at the same stage.

rafa didnt have a massive amount to spend when he first arrived, he spent less than rodgers did in the summer.
any money he spent in subsequent seasons he generated himself with his achievements in the CL.
and to be fair to roy he had very little to spend compared to the other managers we`ve had in the modern era, his `big money` buy miereles was funded by macherano leaving.

The club isnt as attractive now as when Benitez took the reigns and we certainly dont offer the
big wages like we did back then.

Once bitten twice shy with FSG.

No idea who he might be looking at in the Jan transfer window, but I hope he doesn't use the same criteria he used to pursue Borini. I know he's at a new club etc. but I haven't seen anything in the games he did play to give me any comfort.

Borini is ordinary but who the hell can we actually convince to come here without
loosening the purse strings on wages.

We can talk until the cows come home about shithot players who would improve
the team but unless you start the bidding at £100k a week wages they wont even
pick up the phone let alone pull on a Liverpool shirt.

Suarez was probably the last serious player we could actually convince to come here
at a time when FSG had a genuine interest in pumping money in to build a team but
since then their bottles gone completely after a catalogue of disasters in the market.

So now you will be hoping Rodgers fails?

THIS is why I dont attend these forums as much as I used to.

Can someone email me when the supporters return, I miss them.
