Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Suarez will get his normal 10-15 goals, that's it.
Problem is also compunded that our midfield is sooo damn slow and defensive minded practically noone will get 5 goals bar maybe Gerrard.

He is not a natural scorer like Rush, Fowler, Owen. He is good at tearing defences down and provide assists to others. So other than Suarez, who else do we have in the squad who were signed to put away the chances created? We have Carroll and Borini, that's all. Carroll doesn't look like he will fit into BR's tactics. Borini is an unproven striker who may or may not come out good. So Brendan needs to sign that proven goal scorer before the window closes that we desperately need to stick the bl..dy ball into the net. With Suarez, Carroll and Borini, I fear the same goal scoring nightmare problem will haunt Liverpool this season.

He has no money though!

unless he can sell Carroll he cant buy another striker.

I agree.

Suarez is an outstanding talent, but clinical he is not. He will score wonder goals but will not convert the majority of chances.

It is too early to tell if Borini will be that player or not. I cannot judge him based on a couple of pre-season games and one league game. As long as he gets plenty of games, it will be clear soon enough if he is our solution.

If not, we have a long wait until the January transfer window...

i agree about the lack of goals in the midfield, especially now with kuyt and maxi gone.

i still don't get why we didn't push the boat out to get sigurdsson and just offer him what he wanted, especially with the freeing up of wages by getting rid of certain players.

i read a stat today which sums it up. last season we had 51 more shots than man united and scored 41 fewer goals.

That doesnt really mean anything. We had a huge number of hopeless longshots because most of our players never made runs into the box. A hopeless shot from the half way line counts as a shot just as much as a good chance from inside the box.

+1 on pleading poverty and like any new job its a learning curve for the lad.

I agree he has had a sly chirp about the money side but added that he knew the situation
before he took the job, but even so you get the impression he has been a bit frustrated
by it regardless.

Also mentioned how much harder it is to recruit players with other clubs adding zeros
on to the fee once we make an enquiry.

I think he understood the budget but has misjudged how quickly he could shift some out
(Carroll in particular) and so his rebuild is held up until he can generate funds.

Rumour today that Cole and Adam have now been told to look for other clubs so you can
see he is frantically trying to raise cash anyway he can to get some new faces in before
the window shuts and certainly following Saturdays reverse.

Rodgers wont want to be on the ropes early doors despite this being a long term fix and
will no doubt be doing everything he can to ensure that does not happen.

I think everybody should just calm down - its a transtionary period so why dont we o just make do with what we've got and see how we're doing at christmas - panick buying and throwing money at the problem clearly didnt work under the last manager so lets give Rodgers a few months to impose whatever it is he wants to impose and lets take stock down the line. Maybe Borini and Downing will add goals, maybe they wont - we clearly need more goals but im all for waiting for Rodgers to fully identify the problem and get rid of more of the dead wood first. Its not going to be fixed over night.

A trophey which means fk all in the scheme of things mate. It was a poor attempt at papering over cracks and it didn't stop Kenny from being sacked.

A trophy that meant we ended our wait for a trophy, a trophy that means we're back in Europe, a trophy that means we have more than three players who won something with Liverpool in the squad, a trophy that keeps us as England's most successful club, a trophy that brought me to tears when we won, a trophy that was quite possibly the happiest I've been in the last few years supporting Liverpool. So yeah, that trophy meant f*ck all.

Kenny's sacking was shocking, a man who has done so much for this club as a player, manager and human being should be allowed to walkaway when he wants not when some yank without a clue thinks so.

Its true though - its the league form that shows the true consistency of a team

It was great to win the CC but it didnt cover up the disappointment of such a poor league form
