He no doubt owns an Irish passport and a British one too. But let's not get into that one, eh. Really bores the f*ck out of me.
As for his appointment, I'm not sure what to make of it. I'm confused how FSG actually went from sacking an experienced manager that's won major things, knows the club, played for the club, has a high esteem of the club, to someone who has relatively no experience of all the aforementioned. I'll back him. No other choice in the matter there. I always maintain you judge a manager by his signings, so I'll wait and see who he gets in. Kenny made some f*ck ups last summer, but never got the chance to correct it. This will be Brendan's litmus test.
Carnlough has a high Catholic population but that does not mean high Nationalist population Emerald mate, there is a world of difference in this day and age. As for Brendan Rodgers I have no inkling as to what his political leanings are nor do I know what kind of passport he holds, and I certainly respect his right to claim Irish nationality if he so chooses but I take offense at anyone who comes on here and makes bullish claims that he is
delighted to see the first Irishman (yes, Irish) get the Liverpool job.
is such a confrontational way.
We are NORTHERN IRELAND. We have our own country with a separate identity from Ireland and Britain, despite the heavy political inclinations of a sadly large part of either side. When certain people start using the Irish or British connotations it leads to inevitable divisions, but many of the population now use the term Northern Irish to signify both sides as a people together as one, moving forward from a tragic past, however fanciful as that may appear when you see images of sectarian violence plastered all over the TV every summer.
No one ever made a point of calling Kenny Dalglish British rather than Scottish so Id appreciate it if people would address our new manager in a similar fashion. I said jokingly earlier in the thread its nice to see an Ulsterman in the news for something other than blowing people up but there is still a great deal of truth in that statement. We have a long, long way to go before the scars of the past have truly healed (it certainly wont happen in my lifetime) and many of us are trying to move forward, and I am immensely proud as a supporter of this great club to have a compatriot in charge of the team I love, and i'll be damned if people are going to start dragging politics in the way of that.
