Milan have supposedly just bid £15MILLION for Alonso. I think the deals are back on  :D

Milan try for £15million Liverpool star

AC Milan hope to take Xabi Alonso from Liverpool Football Club.

The Spanish international has been heavily linked with a move from Anfield all summer, as Rafael Benitez looks to raise cash to fund his own raid in the transfer market.

A move to Juventus was scrapped when the Italians refused to offer any more than £12million, whilst the Reds are reluctant to entertain interest from Arsenal.

Carlo Ancelotti has now believed to have targeted the former Real Sociedad player for a move to the San Siro, and an offer of £15million will be enough to ensure the services of Alonso.

You're not joking either!
I find it strange, why would Milan wait till now to buy Alonso when he played for us in the C/L qualifier last night
Seems the remainder of the transfer window may not be as quiet as we thought.

Personally I'm sick of the Barry transfer saga.  Initially I was in favour of it, and I do think he'd be a slight improvement on the Alonso of last season.  However, he wasn't worth 18 mil in the first place, never mind now when he's cup tied for the CL group stages, so leave it.

We should forget about it now.  Unless Milan offer 15 mil for Alonso and Villa half their asking price for a cup tied Barry (which won't happen) then I'd stick rather than twist.

Let's concentrate on shutting O'Neill up by beating them at Villa park early season.

Word here is that Man Utd have offered a massive 20 million quid for Thierry Henry !

I wouldnt value him at more than 10 myself for a variety of well known reasons.

Barry has come out tonight and said that he wants the whole saga sorted by the weekend and that was after the match.

Come Monday this thread can be deleted :D

O'Neill: Barry wanted to play

Updated: August 14, 2008, 10:32 PM UK

..............................................................................

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill insisted 'nothing would have stopped' Gareth Barry playing in tonight's UEFA Cup qualifying match against FH Hafnarfjordur.

By appearing in Villa's 4-1 win in Iceland, Barry becomes ineligible for this season's Champions League, and if he joins Liverpool before the transfer window closes they would have to cope without him in Europe.

But O'Neill said: 'He was in the right frame of mind and wanted to play. Nothing would have stopped him so that is pleasing.

'I have no idea what will happen between now and the end of August.

'He knew the consequences of playing tonight so the decision was very much his. Even though I'm the manager and I picked him.'

Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill remains uncertain about Gareth Barry’s future despite his participation against Hafnarfjordur cup-tying him for Liverpool’s Champions League campaign should he move to Anfield.

Barry scored in the 4-1 win against the Scandinavian side in their Uefa Cup qualifier, and wanted to play according to O’Neill.

Money remains at the heart of Barry’s possible move to Liverpool and O’Neill is cautious over his chances of keeping the England player.

"I wouldn't be particularly sure until the transfer deadline passes what might materialise, so we'll see,” warned O’Neill.

"He's our player, and he wanted to play in the game, and we think he's mentally tuned into it so that's all that matters.”
