To be honest, with Xabi being a bit of a favorite and if Barry dosent get a good start I can see a section of the fans getting on his back.

I'm not saying it will definatly happen but he will be expected to slot right in because :-

He knows the Premiership so shouldn't need time to "settle in"

He has cost a lot of money

He knows some of the players he will be playing with

Personally I hope he comes and is a success as I do rate him as a player and he seems to be the type of player Rafa likes in his team. We could potentially have the England centre midfield partnership playing at our club for years to come

We have to do the dreaded Real Madrid tactic.

17M + Finnan are the result of the open and honest interest of this club towards Barry. So they get cocky and make their demands.

We have to tell them to fúck off. Then in their lonelyness, they'll think that they have an upset player possibly with no come back of that situation, they think how well they could use 13M and they'll think it was not a bad idea after all.

Eventually they'll knock our door and say it's too late, we'll only pay 10.

If Barry comes and plays the way he played for Villa(especially last season) there is no LFC fan amongst us that will complain or get on his back mate.I dont see any reason why he wont be like a duck to water. In fact playing with better players he may very well learn more and improve his overall game.

At Villa he was 1st name on teamsheet when fit...he was'nt in and out of the team, although he was shifted around the pitch at times due to his versatility and ability to perform highly in different positions..i guess technically that is rotation..he should fit in well at LFC then! :D

man, i don't understand Rafa's soft spot for CMs. The team has enough quality CMs in Masch, Xabi, SG as well as good back up in Lucas. This teams need quality wingers as  i said long time ago under Houllier's time. 18 mil can surely buy a very good winger can't it?  :no

4-5 million for Finnan? At least? and then we think Martin O Neil is a cheeky little fecker for wanting 17 mill for Barry?   :D

yes... why? because he's a Liverpool player who hadn't put a foot wrong in the biggest of games... he's a champion's league winner... and will go on to perform very consistently at the highest level for another 3-4 years because of his fitness and experience... ok maybe 4-5 million is exagerating it a bit... but he's at least worth 3 million like toffeehater suggested.

We need to pull out of this deal fast. It's an absurd price for a player of Gareths quality. We still have Alonso who wants to stay.

Gosh...its 2 months since i went back home to michigan and this signing still haven't been done and dusted ?

What i notice after browsing here for 10 mins is that we have only signed a right back, a left back and some young striker who will be in the reserves for a few seasons  (looking at the history of our other young signings). And voronin is still here ? Is Alonso moving or what ?

ah well.....hope we sort all before our 1st league game...

La Liga and Premiership are two different dimensions.

They are not the same kind of football. Just because it worked for Rafa in Spain doesn't mean it's guaranteed to work in England.
