Michael owen - Almost at his best...go for him in jan?

The Premiership - General Discussion

Looks like he will again be having surgery.

I really feel sorry for him to be honest, he has had a shocking few seasons injury wise.

FROM THE BBC

Michael Owen has been ruled out of England's two Euro 2008 qualifiers in October with a tear in his groin.
The 27-year-old will see a specialist on Thursday to determine whether he also needs a hernia operation.

"It will be three weeks out and he will miss England with his groin," said Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce.

"Michael would miss England anyway with his groin tear so we might as well check up to see whether he needs a hernia operation."

Owen, who has a 3cm tear in his abductor muscle, is understood to have seen a surgeon in Bradford earlier this week to determine the extent of his hernia problem.

It has been suggested that as a result of the surgeon's findings Owen will have an operation in Germany on Friday carried out by Ulrike Muschaweck.

Allardyce added: "Owen will probably need another operation but the other specialist has not told us that yet.

"Whoever does the surgery cannot say whether he needs a hernia operation or not until they have seen him, unless they are magic and they can see over here from Germany."

England face crucial Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia on 13 and 17 October.

Owen netted three times in September's qualifying victories over Israel and Russia after missing the majority of the 2006-07 campaign because of a cruciate ligament injury suffered at the 2006 World Cup finals.

He limped out of Newcastle's match on Sunday and was also substituted during the Magpies previous game, a 1-0 defeat at Derby on Monday 17 September.

A hernia operation could rule him out of action for two months.

England boss Steve McClaren is already without Emile Heskey, who partnered Owen up front for both those wins, after the Wigan striker suffered a broken metatarsal on 15 September.

Joe Cole is also suspended for the Estonia game, although Wayne Rooney is available.

I was disappointed when we missed the chance to bring him back but can now only think thank christ we did. Injuries with Owen were always to be expected but his record since returning from spain would have put even harry kewell to shame.

He's at Newcastle, any decent players end up injured at st jim jams park. If he were at Anfield he'd have to be Harry Kewell to be constantly injured, either Newcastle are many times more unlucky than us or we get it right and they're useless

So why do we need him again? :D

If I was a Newcastle fan I would be fuming at the way Owen has been picked for the England squad while still recovering from surgery. FFS let the lad play a few games for his club this season rather than just using his club to get him fit for England games.

As I am not a Newcastle fan I find it a little bit funny :D  but slightly similar to our problems with Kewell :(

i loved it last year wen i thought owen was returning but now i dont think it is ever going to happen and nto sure if it is even for the best. with all the injuries he gets im not sure if it wuld be worth it anymore. i think we should firstly get a centre back and possibly a right/left back. and if crouch does leave come the end of the season then i think we will get a new striker, but i think it would be someone like voronin again, a team player not a world class one.

According to the BBC, Michael Owen just sprained his wrist while playing Halo 3.

He'll miss 849 Newcastle games, but will be ready for England, he says.
