BREAKING NEWS:John Terry has begun giving evidence after an application to get the racism case against him thrown out was dismissed

The magistrate presiding over John Terry's racism trial has rejected a call for the case to be thrown out.

The Chelsea captain is at Westminster Magistrates' Court over allegations he racially abused QPR's Anton Ferdinand.

After the conclusion of the prosecution argument, Mr Terry's legal team asked for the case to be dismissed.

But chief magistrate Howard Riddle decided there was a case to answer and the hearing will continue.

Mr Terry is due to give evidence shortly.

The case relates to a comment allegedly made to Queens Park Rangers defender Mr Ferdinand when the teams played last October.

George Carter-Stephenson QC had argued Mr Ferdinand was an unreliable witness and lip reading experts, who had viewed television footage, agreed it was impossible to clarify what was said.

He said the case was "so weak and tenuous it does not warrant it going any further".

But Mr Riddle rejected the argument.

Lets be honest this is a joke of a trial. Its all hype and the evidence inconclusive. If this had been anything but a 'racist' case it would have been thrown out and probably never even gone to court.

Ashley Cole arrives as a witness.

"Mr Cole, does it make you uncomfortable being so close to an alledged racist?"

Cole: "No, we're divorced now your honour."

According to media reports yes. Tony Evans just tweeted it was the funniest court case he ever attended.

Ferdinand is English though isn't he? so surely it's not racist then? it's to do with colour not race. therefore the race card can't really be called cos what he said was not against his race it was against the colour of his skin.

may as well just send them home cos Terry will get away with it. he wont get the 8 match ban.

Having Ashley Cole as your character witness in court is like asking Tom Cruise for marriage advice.

You misunderstand what 'Race' means mate.

When on the subject of 'Racism', legally 'Race' can apply to a social group, i.e. discrimination of a nationality or religion like the Holocaust.

Or a physical characteristic like skin colour, I.e. Apartheid.

Suarez was deemed racist by the media even before the trial started. In Terry's case the pressure by the media is not even close to the one we had. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen or heard anyone mentioning Terry and a racist in the same sentence. Terry will walk guys, there's no way he'll get what he deserves. Even if he doesn't, his punishment won't be as high as it was for Suarez and his case will be forgotten quickly, while ours will be remembered for a looong time.

some of the arguments that are coming out in this are absolute horse sh!t. Terry's like a child in his defence. He's admitted to using the term in question so there's absolutely no doubt the FA will throw the book at him when this is done right?....right?

All this has done is made me more annoyed with how Suarez was treated compared to this utter cretin

we will have to wait till the case is over and verdict delivered then the focus will switch to the f.a to see what they do.
i doubt they will do much with him tbh and i hope our club asks the f.a why they are biased in this.
