Thank fu*k he dived last night because for all we tried it seemed like were never going to score

But Im sorry, it left a bad taste in the mouth and if it was Ronaldo last year at United then this forum would have went into meltdown

I am not sure it was blatent cheating. Carsley dove in fast and N'gog seemed to be avoiding a crunching tackle. The mistake was however N'gog not leaving a trailing leg to be hit. Whether he got the player or not it was a reckless challenge in the box, and a more experienced player would have left his leg there to be clipped by the defender, and we would not be calling him a cheat. Fact is if N'gog did not dive out of the way, it would have hurt. The defender was lucky to have not made contact with player and if N'gog did not go for the swandive, there would have been contact. N'gog's smirk did not help things though.

The way the press are reporting this you'd think he had murdered someone. I am not condoning in any way what he did , but , he's not the first , won't be the last and many older , wiser and more experienced players have done it , and more than once and they have not been vilified in the press for it.
He's a young man learning his trade and he'll learn from this , but to try to destroy him for a mistake in the heat of an emotional match is very , very wrong.

Sorry Kazza for me someone who has played football (not saying you haven't) as a striker I know that was a dive you only do that if you have in your mind to cheat. It might seem like fast paced but when you get into those areas you mind catchs up and sometimes feel like you have forever to chose to carry on or take the fall. Now I am not saying Carsley didn't dive in and on another day Ngog could have done the dive better (and like you said leave his leg in) and made it look less of a cheating attempt. But any striker knows what he did was a dive.I know deep down he knows it as well but he is hardly going to come out and say yeah I dived it serve him no reward.

But any ways if the F.A fine him or give him 2 match ban or whatever I don't think he would moan about it and its not like he is the first to dive.I know of many pro's who would do the same thing and would admit it.So lets move on I just doubt he have it on his highlight reel when he retires thats all.

From the ref's viewpoint it looked a possible/probable penalty, but in truth he couldn't have seen any contact because there wasn't any! I had something similar when we used to practise for hockey at uni, I got the stick between ball and my foot and the 'ref' sat behind and to the right gave a goal as he said it hit my foot - it most certainly didn't so he was guessing.

Anyway, I saw one replay and I wonder how on earth N'Gog managed to get in such a convincing dive bearing in mind it must have been one hell of a rush of air to bring him down that way. In many ways though the dives of others like Ronaldo are worse because they're less obvious, his foot starts to give a matter of cms from the tackle so it is all too convincing before he then throws himself down. People b*tched something chronic about the Pedersen 'dive' last season, but there was noone near him so how likely is it that would have been given? You have to wonder about the linesman, he must have had a better view of the N'Gog fall than the ref.

These things even themselves out in a season...you can be sure some opposition players (drogba springs to mind) will be diving all over our penalty box.

Refs' chief Keith Hackett dives into David Ngog row as official Peter Walton is forced to explain how he missed Liverpool striker cheating

Referees' chief Keith Hackett joined in the furore over Liverpool striker David Ngog's blatant dive and revealed that match official Peter Walton will have to explain his failure to spot an act that has received widespread condemnation.

Hackett added his own disapproval of the way Ngog threw himself to the ground to earn a point-saving penalty against Birmingham City and added that Walton would be 'upset' when he sees a replay of his oversight.

'I will be sitting down with Peter on a one-to-one basis, as well as in a group format, to see how we can best deal with this problem, so that errors are reduced,' he said.

'We will sit down and go through what the referee could have done to avoid this error. Before I do that I need to look at the various views of the incident on the TV footage, to assess his positioning.

'I know Peter very well and I can tell you he will be upset when he views the DVD of this particular decision.

Nobody in the game supports simulation, and I think that's true of managers and all the organisations in the game, like the LMA. The managers are working very hard to cut this out and I know, from speaking to them regularly, that they abhor this type of behaviour.

'However, players do go down and that puts pressure on referees. It's easy when you have the benefit of replays and different viewing angles to see whether a player has dived, but referees don't have that. They have to make a decision on the spot.

'Ultimately, it's down to players, but referees also have a responsibility. They need to put themselves in the right viewing area to be able to see what's happening.

'I thought both managers were very clear in saying it wasn't a penalty, and I thought the manager of Birmingham was pretty magnanimous in his post-match comments.'

Rafa Benitez is unlikely to take any action against Ngog but will have to address his side's shortcomings as a matter of urgency after Albert Riera reflected on a return of only one win from nine games and admitted it had turned into a mental barrier for Liverpool's under-performing players.

What a load of bollox's the managers can't do any thing ! Its a split second thing any player can do it.It depends on so many little things to do with pressure , atmosphere , what color socks he got on and what he had for breakfast ect ect nothing to do if the manager gives him a high five or not.No manager worth his soul would stab his own player in back and come out and slag his player off for diving any ways.Only if they have a player dive vs them.Look at fergie he moans about diving if Ronaldo did it he is being fouled.Only way it get stoped is if 4th official have T.V replays which I think most fans agree is the step forward any ways.

Ngog is turning into a useful little player ,the way he took his goal showed great technique as Ive seen  them opportunities missed ,I only hope the kid hasn't been tainted by the gauntlet of hatred he experienced yesterday because he is definitely one to keep for the future .

I think what people fail to see is Ngog is an inexperienced kid at  Premiership level ,and his achievements thus far have been promising when put into context with our stuttering start ,and balanced against the contributions of Voronin are colossal in comparison...

blatent dive. he should be told to cut that out straight away.

In terms of the football, i think in the first half on Monday night he was brilliant. Great movement and link up play and a well taken goal. Kind of faded away a bit in the second half but, i honestly think that the ridiculous amount of time we spent attacking them with no goals will not be a regular thing, he could have had more yesterday without having to dive ridiculously and we would have all been happy with his performance.

It's one rule for one and one for another.

I am still yet to read anything about Bent's atrocious dive last week against Spurs.
