From the ref's viewpoint it looked a possible/probable penalty, but in truth he couldn't have seen any contact because there wasn't any! I had something similar when we used to practise for hockey at uni, I got the stick between ball and my foot and the 'ref' sat behind and to the right gave a goal as he said it hit my foot - it most certainly didn't so he was guessing.
Anyway, I saw one replay and I wonder how on earth N'Gog managed to get in such a convincing dive bearing in mind it must have been one hell of a rush of air to bring him down that way. In many ways though the dives of others like Ronaldo are worse because they're less obvious, his foot starts to give a matter of cms from the tackle so it is all too convincing before he then throws himself down. People b*tched something chronic about the Pedersen 'dive' last season, but there was noone near him so how likely is it that would have been given? You have to wonder about the linesman, he must have had a better view of the N'Gog fall than the ref.
