I don't think he is no more of a liabilty than Insua or Skertel to be honest. Granted Carra has come in for a lot of stick this season and this is possibly because Johnson leaves him exposed quite often.

But we play with two holding mids and Kuyt infront of Johnson. Certainly one of the two central mids could drop in for Johnson.

Rafa new Johnson likes to get forward that is why he bought him. Therefore he would of worked on the space Johnson left behind. In terms of conceding goals I think Insua, Grock, Skertel and even Carra have more to answer for.

Until you see this guy play live I don't think you appreciate just what an brilliant footballer and athlete this guy is.

There's also a lot more contributing to our leaky defence than Johnson. Yes he got outjumped for the equaliser but I was more disappointed with how easily Skrtel got beat infront of goal.

I believe he's been one of our better more consistent defenders this season but yesterday he was asked to go forward a lot more though seeing as how we really needed the three points and he didn't dissapoint.  Against the Mancs he was probably told to sit back and he was great in defence that game, as was the whole team though.

All around he's a lot better defensively then people give him credit for.  Even the ones who say the media give him too much stick for it, give him stick for it.  He intercepted quite a few passes and sprinkled in some well timed tackles here and there yesterday, you could say he played the first goal onside but our CB's should have done better imo.  All season long I haven't seen him as that big of a liability like say Insua or Skrtel.

I would be happy if Johnson played on the right wing instead of Kuyt and maybe give that Kelly kid a chance.. he seemed like he had a lot of potential.

Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has pulled out of the England squad to face Brazil in Qatar on Saturday after picking up a slight injury.

The 25-year-old right-back sustained the problem during the Reds 2-2 draw with Birmingham on Monday.

Johnson, who has struggled with calf and groin injuries this season, joined up with the squad on Tuesday and underwent a routine recovery session.

But it has now been decided that he will return to his club for treatment.

  Another one bits the dust

Aggers pulled out an all.

COPENHAGEN, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Denmark defender Daniel Agger has withdrawn from November friendlies against South Korea and the United States with a back injury, the FA said on Tuesday.

The Liverpool centre-back has missed three of Denmark's nine matches this year because of the injury, which resurfaced in Monday's 2-2 draw with Birmingham City in the Premier League.

Good news. No need for him to get injured again whilst playing some completely irrelevant friendly. We need him fit and firing against City as I fancy him to give Bridge the runaround :;):.

Hopefully the international managers will 'wise up' and realise injuring or making injuries worse in pointless friendlies will only increase the risk they won't be available for the World Cup. How many friendlies will that be in the few months of this season...................?

Unless Kuyt starts to perform better than he is Phil, we must surely be approaching the point where we're tempted to play Johnson at right mid. I've always said he looks like a right midfielder who's playing right back to me. Stick the kid in behind him and set him loose.

Johnson will then replace Kuyt as the best right winger in this league...  :wwww

But....i mentioned in another thread that given Kuyt's form now......we could give johnson a go on the RW....But don't think benitez will drop kuyt as long as he is the manager...

Doesn't say how long he will be out for yet tho.

If we had only spent his (Johnsons) money somewhere up front
or on a good winger but I think Rafa at that point thought he would have a lot more money to spend.

Or is it yet another catalyst for the duration of the season ,another turning point, because if I am truthful  Johnson in a defensive capacity has been weak ,in fact I don't think I have seen our Right flank so vulnerable since his deployment in that position ,dont get me wrong Johnson is talented fleet footed and pacy going forward ,but sadly lacking in the characteristics that Arbeloa had in abundance .

So could this injury be yet another event ,that will in turn leave Liverpool regaining the solidity that we have been so lacking this season ,because the alarming regularity with which Johnson is beaten or indeed M.I.A is starting to become incredulous in the extreme .

I think Kelly would be a much more capable defender and this would leave Carragher less exposed and able to concentrate on being the best central defender in the Premiership

I dont think Glenn is quite as bad defensively as some make out.
Granted he isnt solid but i dont think Arbeloa was that solid either to be honest.
He is a far better player for me than the spaniard but has had a few niggly injuries that have hampered his form.
Its a blow if he is out for a lengthy period without a doubt as our options there are not good at all.
If the young lad Kelly is fit based on that game against Lyon he would be in for me all day.
No messing round playing Carra out of position and i dont fancy Degen at all.

Arbeloa's forays up field were to say the least rare ,but he was a much more intelligent defender than fans give him credit for ,and I always felt sure he would prevent damaging  crosses coming in to expose our defence ,and in that respect fans had faith in his  ability ,as oppose to the unease every time a winger converges down our right I feel now with Johnson there    ???
