Out of the three players we have for the left side, ironically the cheapest one is our best. Benayoun we got for just £5 Million !!

I would value him at around £20 million right now  :)

Shows you don't have to spend £17m+ on players to get decent ones. Shame that Rafa is trying to buy the Premiership with money we don't have through £17m+ signings. Are they any more likely to succeed than players who cost less? (the £17m+ players Rafa signs, not players costing £17m+ in general)

I am not sure of stats or what not but surely benny has turned out to be one of our best buys for price over goals and assists made for a while ain't he ?

Really made up for him he clearly has put alot of work in on the training pitch and its reallly paying off he is getting better year on year. :)

He's now scored 10 in his last 18 appearances for Liverpool. To put that into perspective, Torres' last 10 goals have come in his last 16 appearances - although I saw someone somewhere (not on here) suggest he's been ordinary since his first season  (or words to that effect). Gerrard has scored 11 in his last 14 appearances, I would compare his last 10 but he scored twice in the first of the 14 appearances.

Certainly worth the £5m we paid for him, and more. Can't always say we get value for money with Rafa signings

Well done Benny...

i think the last time benyoun got a hat trick, it was babel who had a cameo quite late, scored 2 goals (backheel, and one off his as s), and also hit the cross bar from a 4 yard header

how times have changed (for the worse) for babel...  :no

We have now balance in the team with benayoun as a support striker (yeah....he does a switch-a-roo with kuyt a lot too) and Reira on the left. Lets just keep this line-up until aqua man comes back.......

Hope benitez doesn't screw things up by trying to accomodate lucas and mascherano in the same team.... Its either lucas or mascherano...not the 2 of them.

the first goal was definitely beardsley at his best.

you can't leave him out for me at the moment. infact after gerrard and torres he'd be the next name on the team sheet for me.

It took him a while to get going and he was really inconsistent in his first season.
But the second half of last season and the start of this one have been great for him.
He seems to have come on so much and is oozing confidence.
It wasnt just his goals on saturday it was his all round game. He works hard when he doesnt have the ball and then when he does his decision making is nearly always spot on.
The way he followed in looking for rebounds all of the time on Saturday was good to see as well.
He has a desire to score goals and his recent record is fantastic.
On current form he should not be left out.
Made up for the lad.

I'd go as far as to say that he should be the first guy on the team sheet.

Agreed. If he was to get his consistecy levels up then we'd have a real player on our hands.

I agree that he should be in the team on merit with Gerrard moving back into CM for the time being. I see no reason why Gerrard can't stay in CM for the foreseeable future IF Yossi is going to keep this level of performance up. Means that rafa cn then ease aquilani into the team over half a dozen games.

I thought they both played pretty well last night, but Riera's shooting wasn't accurate or clinical enough. If you steer the ball along the ground it gives the goalie as much chance as possible to save it, we should be looking to lift/steer the shots a foot or two off the ground so around and/or over. It also means if the ball bounces once it can bend into the net without necessarily bending into touching range of the goalie ie can bounce short and over/around. Shots played along the ground look great when they go in, but if I were a keeper I'd prefer them on the ground than have to cope with the third dimension.

id start with benny every week always a goal threat works hard and can make a goal too, him and kuyt could get 15+ goals this season barring injury whitch is what weve been asking from our wingers for a long time

Benny has always been underrated and he's been a fantastic signing for 5 million , we'd probably get 15 million for him now . He's the only creative player we have in the side now and always looks to make things happen whenever he has the ball , most important player attacking wise after torres and stevie . He seems to have bulked up as well over the course of the summer , no longer as light weight as he once was , fantastic dribbler , yesterday run was just one of the many he is capable of . If i had to pick one between riera or benny , it would be benayoun anyday , i think this is the reason why rafa is playing benayoun behind nando to accommodate riera to increase the width and also dropping stevie back to midfield until aqualiani is fit
