th mccarthy im on about ace is the young scottish lad that wigan have just bought . We tried to get him couple years ago but he opted to stay in scotland , so will be interested to see how he has developed . Valencia even at wigan didnt make you sit up and take notice , he was just ok and decent , at a smaller club you expect these guys to look head and shoulders about his teammates and he didnt for me . Arshavin will be i reckon a great player after a proper pre season and still think he is the one we missed out on .

I admit Ronaldo's a c..., but then there's c...s and there's c...s. Wheras Ronaldo is the type of one who despite you being fully aware of what he is, you'd still have him in your football team nine times out of ten, Adebayor is the type of one who is in it for himself IMHO. Anyway, sorry for being a c... and straying off topic :laugh:

yea i know who ur talking about Gybs ... i was thinking about Benni McCarthy i dont think big Sam (yeah! :buttrock

) rates him too highly but i think hes a good player for any midtable side... heard CeltaVigo and other premierleague clubs were interested in him so thought Wigan might have snapped him up :glare:

, i couldnt possibly know more about female genitalia than you do but ill give it a go

you see while i do agree that Adebayor is indeed one, i think the fact that he'll be playing alongside the likes of Teves, Robinho, Ireland, SWP, Elano..etc gives gim more of a chance at proving that he can replicate his form of 2 years ago... last season he was injured for long periods and only managed to play in about 20games or so for Arsenal (still did well overall mind you)... i think hes already proved that when given chances, he'll score... if you put in the crosses, he'll be up there winning many of the headers....

so in conclusion, while i agree that hes not conducted himself admirably with regards to the whole transfer deal, he still has it in him to be a good buy for them when all is said and done.. end of the day footballer are judged on their contributions on the pitch not their personalities and how they conduct themselves outside it...

Middle: Gareth Barry, because he is a good player

Biggest Flop: Santa Cruz

I only enter this thread for reading purposes but I wonder where would the posters place the 10M or so signing up of Crouchy to Tottenham.

I wasn't happy to see him out neither.

Agree about Zhirkov. I think he'll be very effective in this league as he's quick and direct.

Expensive: Carlos Tevez.
World-class, guaranteed performer at any level in any side, in a number of positions. Absolutely delighted he didn't sign a permanent deal with yernited.

Mid-expensive: Glen Johnson.
Best RB in the league (I'm setting myself up with that one :;):

). Exceptionally comfortable on the ball, he'll add another dimension to our attack, he's not too shabby in defence either; something his commitment during his Pompey days has helped to refine. Physically he's now the part too, and seemingly a good down to earth lad with a lot of ambition and focus, he'll relish taking the opportunity Rafa's given him, and in a world cup year all the more so. I can't wait to see him play.

Mid-range: Gareth Barry.
Solid, consistent, prem experienced and just what City need in the midfield. The main benefit being his ball retention, something they've desperately lacked over the past season and a bit, but he's a bit of all rounder - a player of few weaknesses - so you would think another guaranteed performer. He'll play a key role in enabling the rest of their side to function.

Bargain basement: Luis Jiminez.
Seen him play for all of 34 seconds but he looked quite skillful. A potential Carlos kickaball he may be, but Zola's side play some fluid attacking footy and he looks like another who could slot in there nicely. Zola knows.

Flop: If he goes to Hull, Bobby Zamora, because he's sh!t and so are Hull.
Otherwise I'll stick my neck out and say Adebayor. Good player when he can be ersed but with 4 other top strikers to compete with, I think his attitude may end up being a problem because I doubt his motivation. He had a shocker last season and I expect/hope it continues.

Expensive - Tevez (I would have prefered Diego) but he is a top player with fantastic movement and while his finishing is not the best part of his game he still gets his fair share. Would have made a huge difference for us this season, and as already said glad he decided not to stay at the mancs.

Mid price - Gareth Barry, I think he is the type of player that helps other players raise their game and look better than they are. I think Citeh have signed two cracking players in Tevez and Barry, and given the chance they will help make Citeh into a top four side possibly even this season.

Cheapish - Kyle Naughton, looks to have everything needed to become a top attacking full back. Pace aggression, timing ...... just needs a little more experience and will probably be the next England fullback.

Free - Owen, I hope he fails but I expect him to suceed.

Failure - I hope and pray its not Johnson, and I don't expect it to be. Whoever buys Bent (sorry Mick) I think he is a one trick pony, and no matter where he goes he will fail.

Haven't paid that much attention to the tranfer market apart from where it concerns us. If Johnson is a success do I label it as a good piece of business ? Hmmmm, given the money paid you would expect him to be a success in which case it's only good business but not exceptional.

For me the standout may well prove to be Owen to Man U . If he fails, SFW ? cost them f'uck all, if he succeeds, which I fear he will, what a shrewed f'ucking move. Still think we missed a trick there.

I dont follow the transfers close enough to comment but 'flop' for me would be Citeh in not getting the right manager in place before spending the money.
Hughes will be lucky to see out the season and a high profile manager will have second thoughts when the budget has already been spent. Bit of a strange own-goal by Citeh by all accounts.

Expensive: Tevez. Personally I think he's worth 25 million. Finishing lets him down at times but if played regularly I can see him getting near 20 goals, and his unselfish play will create chances for others. Bad move by Fergie not to pay the big bucks for this guy.

Middle: Barry. 12 million is a decent price for him with the contract running down.

Cheap: Jo. Was quality second half of last season for Everton and now they've got him on loan for another season? Good business for a guy who City paid 18 million for a year ago.

Flop. Santa Cruz. Flash in the pan season for Blackburn the year he signed. Injury problems throughout his career and only one really good goalscoring season. Chances may be limited there this season - waste of 25 million for me.

But for me coup of the transfer window was Inter getting Eto'o (age 28) plus £30 million for Ibrahimovich (age 27). They may yet also get Hleb thrown in for a year on loan. Great deal for Inter. For me Eto'o is clearly the better player even without the £30 million thrown in.

I think my pick of the most Expensive purchases so far has to be Tevez, runs till he drops and can score for fun if given a regular starting berth .

Middle and my nomination for buy of the season Daniel Sturridge to Chelsea ,this one will seriously come back to haunt city capable of creating goals out of nothing ,and I think he will be one of the top strikers in the game given time .

Cheap ,James McCarthy Excellent young midfielder highly rated and much sought after Wigan have got a real bargain and him and cattermole will be an interesting partnership in midfield

Talking of Adebayor, his sale represents another astounding piece of business by Wenger. Bought for 3 million or whatever it was off of Monaco, and sold a couple of years later for 25 million quid. they've essentially got Arshavin for free plus 11 million for Adebayor. Unbelieveable really.

Think he was more like 7 million mick but yeah still fantastic profit made.

Arshavin is a good player an all Mick but itll be interesting to see if he can do well this season with all the added pressure of him being first choice and depended on to provide both in terms of assists AND goals... my guess is they'll go for a 4-4-1-1 with Arshavin playing behind RVP... both not known to be clinical strikers and im guessing Wenger is trying to get back to the passing game they relied on before the mess they got themsleves into at the start of last season... think it'll be a huge season for the likes of Walcott and Nasri aswell... personally i feel theyre lacking a bit in terms of quality upfront... they havent replaced Adebayor who was a big player for them whether Wenger/fans realize(s) it or not and the goals he provided are now gonna have to come from somewhere else... Fabregas is back for the side but im not sure he'll be that much of an addition in terms of being a goal threat to opposition.. as things stand, if they dont add any new players to their roster, theyr a bit behind the other top sides imo (Chelsea, ManUtd, Liverpool, to a lesser extent ManCity)... they now not only need a good defensive midfielder to break up opposition play, they need a 20+ goalscorer to ensure the side does well at the other end of the pitch... im sure many Arsenal fans arent happy with Wenger's transfers so far this summer, and i quite honestly dont blame them...

Adebayor, end of the day whether you like him as a person/player or not, was a consustent goal scoreer for that side... 45 goals or so goals in 2 season are gonna be really hard for this Arsenal side to replace...
