Changes in the summer

The Premiership - General Discussion

Postby JC_81 » Thu Jan 30, 2003 10:11 pm

What's going to happen this summer?  Without doubt there will be big changes at Anfield.  I think Hyppia and Henchoz can be the only players sure of a starting place next season, along with maybe Gerrard when he gets his act together.

Players in?  Duff or Kewell for the left has to happen and I don't want any more gambles like Diouf or Biscan.  I know Houllier has made great signings like Hyppia and Riise who many knew little about but this is the time for big names to lift the fans and the team.  A goalscorer is needed as is  creative midfielder as we have not replaced McAllister in my opinion.

Players out?  Get rid of Owen, he's lost it.  Lose fringe players like Biscan, Vignal, Cheyrou and Diouf.  I think Hamann will return to Germany although I'd like to see him stay.

sell owen? no chance. all strikers miss chances but you have got to be there to miss them in the first place.
i dont think hypia`s covering himself with glory this season either.
i know a lot of reds fans like hamaan but i think he is too negative and by picking him and having a pair of fullbacks that dont venture forward i feel we give the initiative to the other side before a ball is kicked.
sides who have the traditional holding player in the centre of the park always have attacking options down the flanks.
i only think we are three players off a title winning side and if houllier hadn`t thrown cash away we could easy have got them.

How about this:

Strachan as manager - tough talking manager
Molby as assistant - mix of the old liverpool passing style

                  Kirland

Babble   Henchoz    Hyypia   Riise

              Hamman
Gerrard                             Kewell

Whatever changes take place, Hyppia Henchoz Riise Owen and Gerrard should be guaranteed first starts next season. Diouff is still, after nearly a full season in the premiership, too raw. His game is all about effort, but he has delivered precious little in the way of result when set against his £10m purchase price, not to mention the spitting firstly against West Ham where he failed to learn his lesson [and the manager mustn't have made him learn it] and then against Celtic. I'd like to see Hamman stay on to help pin things down in the midfield since Gary McAlister's ability hasn't been replaced and we need a free kick/set piece specialist - too often this season free kicks have been awarded which we have not capitalised from in the way that other teams do. Above all whatever changes are made in the summer they need to be made early on to give the team a chance to bed down before the season begins so that we have a team which is used to playing together rather than a disjointed group of players some with more talent than others.

One word. Rivaldo.

Although hooflier said that we will not be signing him, i see it as IMPERITIVE thatwe sign him. I would like to see him play behind owen instead of Lesskey. If we dont bring in someone to support Owen up front (in the the shape of a world-class player) we will not improve at all. I mean, compare heskey with Rivaldo. You cant!!

A more traditional replacement would be someone in the forum of Vieri a he can play just behind or as a striker. He would also get alot of goals.

I do admit that we need BIG changes and if hooflier cant provide them, then get rid of him i say. If hes gonna stop the club from improving then get him out quick and fast

For next season Liverpool needs to buy some players in defence (where is Abel Xavier, I can't beleave that this Traore guy is still playing. Is Houllier blind?), and also one or two quality midfielders. If Liverpool had someone like Mcalister this year things would be better. I have seen Biscan many times and he is really good, but he should go somewhere where he will be able to play. I hope Houllier is gonna buy some players like Pauleta, Ronaldinho.... and then finaly next year Liverpool will win premiership![I][B]

get rid of heskey!hes the biggest let down for us!hes a striker but cant strike the ballto save his life!why in gods name does he get picked over baros?if i were baros id go to a club who realise just how good he is!traore is full of heart but not very good as a central defender,we need more coevr for central defence as every time hyppia and henchoz are out we are stuffed!buy some decent players houllier not players who can play occasionally1wheres berger?hes loads better than smicer but havent seen him play for ages!cheyrou is a creative player but is very weak he needs more balls when going at a player!

I have to agree about Cheyrou needing more balls.I'd say at least 2 because he plays like a tart.

Finnan is as good as in the bag. Duff will come if asked. He has supported the Pool since he was a child and while the "Evil Ones" also desire him, he will keep away from the dark side and walk into the light ('though he'll never walk alone!!!) Cisse will be expensive...........
Maybe we could see what we could plunder from the Hammers. We should off load Smicer, Berger, Biscan, Vignal, Cheyrou, Traore, give Murphy and Heskey an ultimatum.....
Build around Stevie G. If we didn't have him, we'd be in dire straights. Mark my words, he's a future European Player of the Year. Remember where you heard it first!!
We won't tempt Overmars now that we are not in the premier European competition next year. The only saving grace is that Real Madrid will dominate that until we get our act together.
