That's a good point about Alonso/Barry, especially as City got him relatively cheap at £12 million.
I would assume if Xabi does go we would have got more around the £22 million mark for him, which means we get a replacement and money also.

Personally I can't see Alonso AND Mascherano leaving, and if one does go I think Masch is the more likely.

We would only have gotten 14 million for Alonso last year and paid 18 million for Barry (I must say I am dissapointed in him for going to City as it makes that whole "want CL football" complete bolox). This year Alonso is worth double and Barry much less, maybe it was for the better.

If Xabi does not sign an extention, we would never get a better price for him as we will now. If he will leave, might want to cash in on him now.

To be honest anyone who thinks we should save rafas interviews for future reference is a little naïve.

Do people actually believe rafas interviews are anything other than 90% platitudes, smoke , mirrors and bs???

Possibly so, but I think from reading this interview it's fairly clear he actually wanted to sign Glen Johnson. "So what?" I hear you cry. Well he gave very similar interviews after we signed Keane, only for people to claim with a straight face five months later that the manager never wanted him in the first place, "it was fecking Parry " apparently.

Good player for mid-table teams, not yet proven he can hack the big stage. Hopefully he will do at Anfield.

Glen Johnson is gong to be presented to the media tomorrow

Hopefully Rafa is there, we might get some Alonso answers out of him
