He'd haggle over sticking to a valuation of 17.75, refusing to pay 18million until August and Johnson would end up at Citeh.

Are we a better side after signing Glen Johnson? IMHO i truly believe we are. As has been mentioned, I think Johnson will provide a great partnership with Kuyt on the right. This is the creative right sided player that we are getting. Something that people on hear have been moaning we've needed for ages.
Maybe Rafa's thinking on this situation goes along the lines of this. Can I get a great RW or RM for 15-20 million, probably not that'll cost more like 20-25 million. Why not get a very good attacking RB/RWB and use Kuyt in more of a defensive cover role on the right when the RB is going forward.

My point is, for the given money (18.5mill) we could improve even more in our attacking play by signing a winger or foward, all that without compromising our defensive abilities...

Our defender is bought to attack and our 10m forward is bought to defend?
decent player, if we bought him for £6m and had £12m more left in the kitty I'd be happy.
I just think we paid waaaaaay over the odds and that now we won't have the money to spend on the more important positions - Kuyt isn't a winger, Babell is touch and go,and we need somebody that can break down the likes of Stoke, Fulham etc when they come to anfield for a point. I don't think a full back will make the difference against those clubs and it is those clubs that cost us the league.
