:O

fck it if ur happy with mediocrity then its a waste of time discussing anything here.... give him a chance to prove what exactly ?! that he'll be the solution to our attacking problems in terms of breaking down smaller sides ? gimme a break !

Hes a good fullback and he'll improve our side in attacking terms, no doubt.... would he do enough of that to help us significantly against the smaller sides ? probably not... would we have gotten a top attacking player for given money ? probably yes... would he have possibly done more in attacking terms against the smaller sides ? probably yes... simple really :p

and fck it im not that bothered with it anymore... liked the kid for a few years and always thought he was good enough to play for a top side.. just never in 18 million years would i have thought he'd cost this much.... selling Alonso to finance other transfers ? not anymore we arent...

He'd haggle over sticking to a valuation of 17.75, refusing to pay 18million until August and Johnson would end up at Citeh.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

I think Mick hit the nail on the head a couple of pages back, because Johnson isn't exotic asigning a lot of people are up in arms, of course they wont admit this though, if we were buying alves of Barca for the same price i reckon a few people on here would have a different attitude even though alves is overrated.

Maybe Rafa's thinking on this situation goes along the lines of this.  Can I get a great RW or RM for 15-20 million, probably not that'll cost more like 20-25 million.  Why not get a very good attacking RB/RWB and use Kuyt in more of a defensive cover role on the right when the RB is going forward.

Our defender is bought to attack and our 10m forward is bought to defend?

decent player, if we bought him for £6m and had £12m more left in the kitty I'd be happy.

I just think we paid waaaaaay over the odds and that now we won't have the money to spend on the more important positions - Kuyt isn't a winger, Babell is touch and go,and we need somebody that can break down the likes of Stoke, Fulham etc when they come to anfield for a point. I don't think a full back will make the difference against those clubs and it is those clubs that cost us the league.

My point is, for the given money (18.5mill) we could improve even more in our attacking play by signing a winger or foward, all that without compromising our defensive abilities...

Robben aside (a player I like but lets not forget he has been VERY injury prone the past three years), name a few wingers/wide middies that we could get for £18 million? It doesn't seem to get you much these days, quite a few on here seem to think you can buy a ready made world-class attacking player for that type of money. It seems that the cost of everyone has just shot up thanks to Madrid and City going crazy with the cash. Suddinely they're talking £45 mill for David Villa when it was £25 mill a year ago, same goes for Ribery at Bayern. Even a younger player like Sergio Aguero (the man i believe we should be trying to sign) is probably gonna cost £35-40 million in the current climate.

Couldn't disagree more.

I think the one thing we DO need when breaking down the 'smaller' clubs is the wing back who can add the extra dimension to our play and help to break down teams...

the more players pushing forwards the harder it is for otehr teams to play deeper so can only benefit us

Seriously, we would not have gotten any :censored: attacking player for 18m.  Wake yourselves up christ.  If Ribery is worth 70m Masch is worth AT LEAST 30.  It's ridiculous right now so just get your head out of the clouds for a minute and come back down to earth.
