It seems more than a rumour. The article says the interest of Atletico is strong (it was well known that whey wanted Arby from months ago), and that since Liverpool still owes some money of the Torres payment to Atletico, they will try to use this fact to get a good price.

The article says that Arbeloa stopped his contract renewal negotiations a few weeks back and that his contract ends up in 2010.

So this is bad news, because if it's true the financial troubles made us owe money to Atletico, this means we won't get much money for these two, who have proven valid.

Unspecified, but the way it says it, it can't be the half or an important sum. It says that the payment was divided in stages, and there's still a few stages to be paid.

If we sell Arbeloa and then cant afford Glen Johnson, we're fecked.

Both players are more than useful for us, we cant afford to let them go as we
cant afford to back-fill adequately enough.

After GJ's performance yesterday I would think that interest may cool off

Offer them Plessis, Degen and Itandje! But in all honesty can they force us to give them players since their valuation may not meet our's ie if we owe £2.5m then we can say that's what Degen is worth, here you are now get fecked.

Does anyone know for sure what happened to the refund money we got off spudz for Robkeaneho? If Rafa wasn't going to spend that then he might have been best advised to pay off all/most of what is outstanding on Torres.

Johson is a must now. Some rumors today suggesting Chelsea will sign him next week but surley he will just be bench warming for Bosingwa there?

I wish people would shut the fu.ck up about Glen Johnson.  He's sh.it.  He's found his level at Portsmouth and should stay there.  Couldn't cut it for Chelsea and can't cut it for England - his performance against Kazahkstan was embarrassing.  The lad simply cannot defend.

I'm amazed, absolutely amazed that Chelsea are considering re-signing him for 16 million.

Back on topic, can't see either Arbeloa or Benayoun being allowed to leave this summer, both have been fairly consistent performers this season.

that, my friends, is why football is becoming a joke, with 'teams' like cheatski and Citeh becomnig laughing stocks

Johnson was bought by Chelsea for £6m I believe it was, £4m is probably right to pompey. Rafa should steer clear of English, how about a team of what English/British/Irish players we have or could have bought at reported prices? (or actually bought)

THE "PROUD TO BE BRITISH" (OR IRISH) XI

GK Kirkland £6m
RB Johnson £12m+
LB
CB
CB
RM Pennant £6.7m
LM Downing £12m+
CM
CM Barry £18m (at the time)
CF Keane £20.3m
CF Bellamy £7m

I could put in the likes of Scales and Babb at CB but that's getting on ancient history. Weren't we linked with a move for Turner of Hull? And a while back Riggott of Boro, but I can't remember fees mooted at that time. If Downing wasn't linked at silly prices you could include Duff back when we were debating if we'd rather have him or Kewell (for £5m)..........................

I thought he was awful for England saturday.
It seemed like he was day dreaming half the time.

It wasnt really his actual defending that was the main problem for me, it was the fact that he kept trying to beat his man and getting tackled in dangerous positions.
Must have counted 3 or 4 times when he done that.
