That Martinez looks like a bit of a beast.  Haven't seen enough of him to be convinced he's good enough for us, but looks like he'd handle the physical side of things no problem over here.  Lucas has to go if we buy him though.  In fact Lucas has to go anyway.

I think this summer could be very interesting indeed. All the signs are pointing to a change in the ownership and hopefully with that will come some fresh £££'s. Rafa won't have signed a new contract without the guarantee of funds!! That coupled with a bit of a clear out (nothing drastic just 2-3 of the fringe players like Yossi, Pennant etc) could see Rafa with a fair pot of cash to spend.

The shopping list can be as long as you like but we don't need mass changes. The options I would look at are -

Brede Hangeland - really rate the guy and think we'd get him pretty cheap. Replacement for Sami
Steven Ireland - Man City might offer him mega bucks but he has to see that Man City are a long way off challenging and the prospect of lining up alongside Gerrard must be tempting
Barry - I think he's a dead cert now that Villa won't make 4th spot - utility player for LFC!
Lennon - young player of the year for me. Will cost a few quid given he's just signed a new contract though

Still leaves room for a 2nd striker which is a tough one.

Leaves us with an abundance of midfield players but if you move Yossi and Pennant on and maybe loan out Lucas so he is playing every week then it makes it easier to accomodate everyone!

Only seen that Hulk fellow (Porto) a few times. He seems decent (making runs at defenders, twists and turns etc. Anyone know more about him- would he make a good proposition for Liverpool FC?

From what I seen of him against utd over 2 legs he looks a capable lad but then again it was only 2 games. I don't really follow the Portugese league though. Is he in the Brazil squad?

Benitez:     People are OK. I am more worried about the number we are signing: we have a list of 95 players - more or less: players that we could sign this year. Anyway, it is important to know that this is a top side; that players want to stay.

Guillem:    One of the players on that list that you have spoken about openly...

Benitez:     (Laughing) One of the 95...

LOL a list of 95 potential signings, fkn hell.

Just goes to show how hard Rafa works behind the scenes. I hope he gets all his 1st choice targets, money permitting.

Of course, a right winger should be a priority, I think, so maybe we should be going after someone like Santi Cazorla, Jesus Navas or Kuba instead. Then again, if there really is a chance of getting Silva, I'd be gutted if we didn't go in for him...

I don't think Navas will ever leave Sevilla

Navas suffers from cronic home sickness so cant even play for spain let alone leave the country

I am really glad that the list is so big. It means that we wont be held to ransom over any one player. It probably also means that we are considering a lot of squad player signings, because while there may only be 4 or 5 world class players at each position that would walk into our first XI, but I would guess there are dozens of people who are good enough to cover for Torres in a part time role.

mmmm...95 targets.... wtf...

would have been happy with 3 or 4 .. atleast that would mean we focus on getting the players we want and we make sure that they are indeed good enough to play for us and provide something we need... no wonder we always end up with the likes of Lucas, Babel, Kuyt and Leto... 95 for faks sakes.. thats just daft !

not sure how to take what he has said ? maybe there is 95 players around the world that he thinks can improve liverpool but how many will he realistically go for ? or maybe it was more tongue in cheek dig at the constant rumours linkiing us with playuers ?

Interesting how our performances this season have made some people (including me) re-think how best to improve this squad.  Before this season I'd have said we need 2-3 top players to come into the best XI for us to realistically win the league, with no more 'squad player signings'.

I think this season has shown that continuity is also really important.  By not changing the squad too much last summer we've actually improved.  Keane came and went, Cavalieri and Degen haven't really played, Dossena rarely starts, Ngog rarely plays and Riera has been the one significant improvement.

This summer I think one more player of the Riera 'ilk', perhaps with maybe a little more quality - preferably a right sided attacking player, or someone versatile enough to play wide or off the main striker, plus a decent quality striker who can deputise for Torres and be relied upon and I'd be happy with our business.

We could perhaps do with a centre half and a right back too, but I wouldn't try and solve all the problems in one summer, which always seems to be our downfall.

What we should have learned from the Keane signing, is not to fu.ck around with the Torres-Gerrard partnership by buying someone who'll upset that.  That's why I think Rafa won't go for players like Eto'o/Villa.  If it aint broke don't fix it.
