It's becoming a mantra now for Liverpool fans; "Next season will be our season."

Point out to anyone saying "we've only lost one game" that we're seven points behind the mancs and that the mancs lost more games than Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea last season and the mancs were Champions.

Perhaps they listen to the pundits, so called "experts" who love making bold claims like "you can only afford to lose three or four games a season" without checking out the validity ie make claims with no evidence to back it up.

I doubt Rafa will be here next season unless he wins the Champions League or pulls off a miracle and somehow we get close or win the league. I think second is going to be a minimum requirement, maybe the yanks don't know so much about football will not realise that drawing at home is a massive problem

But we HAVE only lost ONE game this season.
We are moving forwards no doubt, and witha few more players we'll do it, i have no doubt about that.

Seriously , having lost only ONE game this season proves nothing. What's the use of losing only once and at the same time collecting as many draws as we can get? Winning games = winning the premiership.

Losing only one game prooves we are harder to beat and moving in the right direction.

I'm not sure I agree Daws and it kinds of brings back to mind your line about the "doesn't mean they aren't c...s" last week. It's quite possible that we are harder to beat, but in terms of the Premiership that doesn't necessarily denote progression as the objective isn't to avoid defeat, it's to win as many matches as possible and therefore accumulate the highest number of points.

If we were winning lots of matches but losing occasionally, that would be progression. Consistently drawing though is simply making the same mistakes as last season.

'Pends which way you look at it Daws' to be honest. There has been steps forwards and backwards and it's hard to pick where our overall position is. Clearly Riera is a better player than Babel so he's been a plus (even if he does only play for an hour at a time) but equally clearly, Peter Crouch is a better player than N'Gog and ditto Risse than Dossena.

We've obviously faired much better against the big four, but it remains to be seen whether that will ultimately make any differnce to either our final league position or our proximity to the winners. As I've said many times I think Chelsea and Arsenal are fairly obviously not as good as they were last season, and while the Mancs are obviously a good team they aren't good enough, or shouldn't be good enough to be able to give us a start and overhaul us as quickly as they have.

I certainly don't think on the whole we've played any better than last season on a consistent basis. What's more Daws, if there has been any improvement at all, at the rate we're improving we'll win the title in about the year 2043 at this rate. That's if we're lucky.

It means that we're starting well early in the season compared to last season only to have the same problems during the 2nd half of this season. Same problems in a different time and different department.

How would i say this.... it's like gaining small but ending up losing ..a lot. . er..kinda... and that makes me somehow agree to Mr. Mourinho statement which sounds something like this... " Do you want to be happy during the game or do you want to be happy after the game?" (referring to Chelsea not playing well and winning and Chelsea play well but losing/not winning).

I think we are a lot better than last season. This is the hardest league in the world. We are 5 points clear of 3rd, lost only one match all season and only really have one recognised striker.

we're still in the champions league as well.
Look at Arsenal and Chelsea if you wanna see real problems.
Where will Chelsea be in 2 years time? Abramovich wont keep funnelling money and can you see a decent crop of plaeyrs to overtake the old timers that are there now?
And Arsenal havent scored in 3 games and can't score against Sunderland.

We are moving forwards, we have a lot more work to do but I still have faith we are moving in the right direction.

Moving forward during the first half of the season.... yes, definitely. Unfortunately, we're moving backwards now with the draws, losing players to injury / transfers. Babel and Ngog to improve until end of the season? very unlikely.

What worries me is Rafa’s dealings in the transfer market. Rafa spent a LOT of money during the summer and the results have been nothing short of disastrous!

There has been a few slight improvements sure but not where it counts.

We still draw far too many games, we still play the most mind numbing negative football, we still have a serious lack of quality in the squad, we still rely on Torres and Gerrard.

At least we are consistent, consistently average. You can count the number of times on one hand that we have played well this season, the rest of the time it's been painful to watch.

nail well and truely wholloped on the head. We are improving and we are heading in the right direction, a couple of players short of a title winning team. Rafa has done so well for this club and this season is proof of that. He's short of a couple of world class players but fk me he's doing a good job with what he's got. Will he be here next season to carry us on? probably not , hopefully he will though cos I think he's pushing us in the right direction and I know I'm not the minority to think that way.
