Robbie keane - [EDIT: On His Way Back to Spurs]

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

He needs to score whenever he is given a chance now. If we are to even think about staying level with Utd for the rest of the campaign we need to be firing on all cynlinders and that means Keane too. I don't care if he doesn't like being subbed. Tough. Don't miss so many easy chances when you do get the chance and maybe you wont get subbed.

Totally agree. Shame others can't see it and offer huge undeserved levels of sympathy to a player that has disappointed far too often

Face reality, Keane has started in the majority of games this season and he has been very disappointing from a goal scoring point of view and that is not criticism it is a fact. If you cannot see that his failure to take the shot against Preston instead of putting Alonso in a difficult position then I think it is you that needs to get a grip!

If his ego is so incredibly fragile then it is something he needs to get over and very quickly if he is going to be any use to us in the second half of the season.

Just admit that blaming Keane for Alonso's injury is pathetic.

If you don't think that Keane's incredibly fragile ego and unacceptable lack of confidence didn't put Alonso in trouble against Preston then I suggest a visit to Specsavers is required. Keane was a £20m embarrassment against Preston and that was pathetic! You have been banging his drum for a very long time and you have still failed to convince me and many others that Keane is the man for the job. He has been given numerous opportunities and failed to deliver so much so that Rafa has no confidence in him - WHAT A SURPRISE!

John - let's face it we are never going to agree. I do no share your Irish admiration for Robbie Keane and I doubt that I ever will. I really still hope he will come good and prove me wrong but the clock is ticking.

Few points Devaney:

1) I do not have an 'irish admiration' for Keane, quite why you have brought nationalities into this only you will know.  He is a good player who has admittedly underperformed for LFC.  The reasons for that we will have to agree to disagree on.

2) I will remind you that it was yourself who dragged up a 5 day old post of mine to ridicule.  Why?  Again, that is your own agenda.

3)  I have not been 'banging his (Keane's) drum' for a long time.  Kindly post links to the contrary if you choose to deny this.

4)  Keane's pass to Alonso was short, but to blame the lad for Alonso's injury is out of order.  You don't need 'specsavers' to see that.

John - Keane's pass to Alonso wasn't short it was totally unnecessary and I am at to loss to see how you can continue to defend Keane for not taking the shot when he was given a fantastic goal scoring opportunity. And don't try to convince me that it was an admirable piece of unselfish play !!!

This whole notion that Keane got Alonso injured with a hospital pass is just complete and utter nonsense.  Keane did pass up the shot in the dying minutes of the first half at Preston but he laid it off for Riera, not Alonso.  Riera had his shot blocked by Davidson and the ball squirted loose in the box.  Alonso tried to get there first but Davidson got up from his sliding challenge quickly and got his tackle in just as Alonso was making contact--that's how he got injured.  It's all very clealy visible HERE starting at about the 1:35 mark.  Any suggestion that the blame for Alonso's injury lies with Keane simply reeks of bias towards the Irishman.

Spot on!

But are you surprised that he's been blamed?
Im not...some people on here are so negative about everything they create little scenarios in their heads just for something extra to moan about!

I think if you were trying to defend Keane Bob, it might have been better not to have included his misses in that clip mate, they looked even worse than I remembered. :D

On another point, did you notice for Torres goal that Babel after winning the challenge just stands there, while Torres who is behind Babel and has to run all the way from the wing as well ,manages to get there. Admittedly Torres was on the move and Babel was flat footed after the challenge , but he should have made the effort imo.

I blame Keane for the draw on stoke, because his inability to warm up properly outside the pitch costed us. :nod

I blame Keane, and then by definition I blame Rick Parry. Because Rafa didn't even want to sign Keane in the first place, it was Rick Parry. Rafa did though want to sign Torres, and Alonso, but I've a hunch that he actually wasn't that keen on Babel, it was Paco who ganged up with parry to sign him.

I still think the club shop opening in Dublin had a lot to do with the signing of keane, Rafa doesnt seem to want him, but dont ridicule the man in the process FFS.

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Just to clarify Lynds, I'm not mocking the player but those who are saying it wasn't rafa who signed him it was Parry. Just in case it was me you was telling me off like  :D (I know I deserve it sometimes but this time it weren't me, honest).
