If torres and gerrard don't play it does not matter. There is no need to panic we will score and win. Goals should come from .....erm.... erm.... erm..... Ahh man we are soo f@cked..
Even without them it will be a tight and defensive game but with our past experience i just don't know why i could see a 1-0 loss. Oh well will soon find out.

Can we try Keane & Babel up front for this game(if Torres cannot make it)? And no Kuyt.

These are the games that always leave me with a hollow feeling. I know its supposed to be the derby, but I really really want to see a good result for this one.

COME ON YOU REDMEN!!!

lets not forget utd will be without their best player so were are not the only ones lacking here.

i think this is a game we have to go for from the start, no pussying about being negative, lets get them under pressure straight away and don't let up, no sitting back and then just hoofing the ball straight back to them

Is that kind of like getting your retaliation in first Peewee as far as the making of excuses is concerned.  :D

Not saying of course that people do make excuses on here at all, not a bit of it  :;):

Not to sound pessimistic here but it will be very hard against Man U, without our best 2 players. A draw would be very good imo.

The only problem is, without Gerrard or Torres where are the goals going to come from?

Sorry mate, could you explain why that's NOT contradictory?

Well if you read it correctly I am saying how they may not be missed, and at the same time pointing out they are our main sources of goals (overall). It's not contradictory, it's raising a question. Not all solutions are perfect, better to identify a problem within a solution than simply assume your solution is perfect. Perhaps the wording isn't perfect because it can be read to imply Gerrard and Torres score against the mancs when they don't

It may actually increase our chances of scoring against the mancs. Gerrard hasn't scored against the mancs in nine games under Rafa and Torres didn't in 173 minutes against them last season. So despite over 50 goals between them last season, neither of them has scored against the mancs under Rafa. So the mancs have done their homework, they cut out our biggest threats of goals. Leaving out Gerrard and Torres leaves out our biggest goal threats, but since that only applies against the rest of the Premiership then we'd have to ask where the goals will come from - with or without Gerrard and Torres.

The only game we've won against the mancs under Rafa was via a header from Crouch, who's to say if Crouch had played instead of Torres last season that he wouldn't have scored the winner? THAT'S the point, a lesser likely source of goals popping up with the winner. The problem for Liverpool is we are so reliant on those two big names for goals that their goal threat can easily be identified and negated by sides and noone else looks like scoring. Mark them two out of the game.

Or flip it round the other way, how many times has a manc player you wouldn't expect to score done just that?

06/07 (h) L0-1 O'SHEA
06/07 (a) L0-2 Scholes, FERDINAND
05/06 (h) W1-0 CROUCH
05/06 (a) L0-1 FERDINAND
04/05 (a) L1-2 SILVESTRE x2

Not exactly high up with the Ronaldos, Gerrards, Torres', Tevezs, Rooneys on the scoring charts. It's hard to plan an unlikely scorer of the winner, however that is FIVE out of nine games played under Rafa that have been won by (or involved) unlikely scorers - Scholes not so, but Ferdinand clinched it. Brown opened the scoring last game, the big names tend to be negated

So basically what you are saying is that without Gerrard and Torres we have no goal threat, so the mancs wont know who the fk to mark, and we might just get a goal from an unlikely source ..... Kuyt  :D

I am personally hoping that neither are fit enough to start, I want to see the other players stand up and be counted. Gerrard has not had a good game against them since he scored that screamer past Barthez anyay, he seems to be too worried about upsetting his england team mates in these games.

The last time we beat the mancs at Anfield in the league was 2001, its no wonder I hate this match so much.

Can't agree with Leon about Gerrard and Torres, I just hope to god they are fit, and if they are FIT they must play. While it would be nice to see the other players stand up and be counted, the chances of it actually counting against the mancs without our best two players are pretty slim.

Why ?

Gerrard and Torres do not save the shots, or defend the corners or make the last ditch tackles or do the donkey work in midfield.

Point being, no doubt they are our two best players, and no doubt they are World Class, but I think we have the personell beyond those two to compete.

United, the last three seasons have come to our place and we have outplayed them, all game - no questions, and they have nicked it each time.

We need to hang in there, and use our new found resoluteness to still grab a goal without conceding.

I think that the kind of lift a win against United without those two could give the other players in our squad is immeasurable.
