PSV VS LIVERPOOL - C/L Quarter final

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby adamnbarrett » Wed Apr 11, 2007 10:47 pm

Well when I heard the team I expected a shite performance and that's what happened. But the job was done in Holland so I understand why Rafa didn't risk Gerrard or Carra.

We never really got going tonight and didn't step up a gear but we didn't need to.

I'm going to complain about some things though so.............

Zenden's got to go for me, I'm glad his contract expries this summer because he's not Liverpool quality and we don't need him. He's unbelievably poor, can't pass, shoot or cross. Waste of space.

Sissoko, what the hell's going on? He's been poor since the Man utd game. I don't know wheteher he's injured, lacking in confidence, he's having eye problems or going through a bad patch but the lad cannot pass and gets a nose bleed when he goes over the halfway line. I'm a huge fan of sissoko but I don't know why Rafa plays him further forward than Alonso and uses Alonso as the defensive midfielder when Alonso has qualities going forward. The more I see of Mascherano, the more I see Sissoko slipping out of the first team at the moment.

I do tend to agree with people about Fowler, I'm a massive fan of Robbie and have him on the back of my shirt and there's no doubt that he's the best natural finisher in our side but he's far too slow I'm afraid and I'm sorry to say I can't see him being here next season. He was absaloutely shattered today. He works hard and runs his heart out but I'm afraid he could not last the pace today. In saying that, Fowler maybe should not be used to play full games but maybe the last 20 mins or so of games. Possibly today he lookjed slower being next to crouch, he maybe needs someone quicker with him because there is no doubt fowler has a deft touch and can slip the ball through for a pacey striker. We'll have to wait and see. Of course also the service today was not the best for Robbie either so it was hard for him.

Big round of applause for Pennant tonight, without a doubt my man of the match. He's got more confidence, the crowd are finally getting behind him and most importantly he's starting to produce the goods. He's running at defenders, getting crosses in. He was good when he came on against Reading and was good today. He stayed on the wing instead of drifting and I've noticed that he seems to be working well with Arbeloa which is a good sign.

Anyway, I'm disappointed we didn't batter these and make a statement because these were there for the taking but I appreciate it's hard to motivate yourselves when the tie is basically won.

Job done, into the semis.

I thought it was an ubelievably dull match but it would have been hard for the lads to get motivated especially since PSV were playing just as boring. There wasn't a single performance that stood out though.
I wasn't dissapointed in Fowler because I unlike most on this forum don't view him through rose tinted glasses, yes he is the best striker we've ever had but that is in the past and we need to move. Two new strikers in the summer and Fowler will be off, I would love for him to stay on in a coaching capacity though but I doubt it.
Pennant was rubbish again, he just cannot cross the ball accurately, very poor display.
All in all I'm happy that we are through but then again I along with everyone else already knew we were, I was kind of hoping for a confidence boosting performance like Man U had but that would be expecting too much from a dull as ditch water manager like Rafa. And before everyone attacks me again I am happy with Rafa at the moment but I would love to see him smile every now again and maybe god forbid celebrate with the lads :-)

We are up 4-0 after two legs.

I think we are in a secure position for the third leg.

:O

Think he's come on leaps and bounds personally. Good performance against Reading when he came on and today he was my MOTM by a mile.

Agreed he had a decent performance tonight but the one on one with the keeper at the end was typical of what Pennant is; INCONSISTENT. So many times this season he's shown some real potential and at times the odd glimmer of potential  class only to go and do something to balls that view right up. Maybe given a bit more time he'll grow as a LFC player but he may have left it too late with that wedge supposedly burning a hole in rafa's pocket for the summer.

Its one thing to play well against Reading, quite another to dominate the right side during a CL semi final !
