CL QF/SF DRAW. FRIDAY 11.00 GMT - PSV Eindhoven

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Ciggy » Fri Mar 09, 2007 1:36 pm

This wont be as easy as some people are thinking, we are without Momo the first leg, and have quite a few players on yellows, Bellamy, Kuyt Pennant, Alonso.
Koeman knows how to beat us I wont be counting my chickens for sure.

Write PSV off at your peril they will play at Anfield like our small club neighbours 10 men behind the ball we would have to score atleast 2 in Eindhoven.

My only concern is the chances we're lettin go beggin. what was it at the break against Barca....10 shots against 1? but 0-0? If we can improve the shots to goals ratio we'd be unbeatable at that rate!! jus hope we hit the target in eindhoven and give ourselves some breathin space back at Anfield.

Need somthing special to unlock tight defences we will miss Garcia, but hopefully Kewell can play some part, or we get something special from the likes of Riise, Gerrard, Alonso, Agger.

The whole team will need to perform at 100% now. I think 4th place is secured now or is it technically? I havent worked it out.

But im sure now Rafa will only have winning number 6 on his mind. Good thing we dont have any tough away games left in the league.

i just can't see where they can seriously hurt us over two legs, with the exception of a set piece. if we're pretty much at full strength we should have too much for them imo.

look, this was our team when we drew 0-0 out there.

Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Agger, Aurelio (Gonzalez 81), Pennant, Sissoko (Alonso 62), Zenden, Warnock, Bellamy (Gerrard 72), Kuyt.

pennant, warnock and zenden started and we still should have beat them. we hit the woodwork twice in the second half where as they practically had one shot in the entire 90 minutes, at home.

i actually think at times that the way we're set up means we're more suited to playing away from home, especially with bellamy's pace. this time around i can see us scoring at least once out there.

no, its not secured. its only 6points.  - the likely hood is, we'll finish top 4, but its by no-way 'secured'

Why should we take our foot off the gas in the EPL? Winnin breeds confidence, and a good winnin run now would do us good, specially if we can get back to hittin 3s and 4s like a little earlier.

Besides, I got £50 ridin on us finishin above the Ar$e!! :p

Technically??? ??? We are only 6 points ahead of Bolton with 27 to play for each.

Best draw on paper that we could have asked for. Think we will make it through.

Milan aren't the team they were two years ago though.Obviously everyone in the quarter finals are going to be good but they aren't the same team as they were then by a long shot.

Since then we have strengthened and they have weakened and there is no reason why we couldn't beat them.By all account Milan really miss Shevchenko as poor as he is in comparsion as he at Chelsea.

Everybody needs to relax the kacks......PSV are a decent side who have just knocked out Arsenal so we need to have our wits about us.

Remember, in 1990 we beat Crystal Palace 9-0 and 2-0 in the league only for them to knock us out of the FA Cup. We cannot afford to be complacent.

You are right JBG, but do you think Rafa and the players will be complacent ?
I really think what happened with Benfica last season could prove to be a blessing in disguise.
They will not want to go out the same way again. We have the players to score goals in Eindhoven and if we do this and come away with a favourable result, then PSV will have to come to Anfield and do more than defend.
Benfica had a 1-0 lead and could afford to sit back and counter attack.
While we should be cautious we have every right to be optimistic.

Although the Benfica game last season proved you cant be too confident i do believe we have more then enough ability to overcome PSV in 2 legs.

From set plays PSV are dangerous but our midfield should be able to boss that game and hopefully our strikers will get their shooting boots on.

If the mancs manage to get by Roma i dont think they would beat either Ac Milan or Bayern Munich.

I had the misfortune of watching most of the mancs game midweek (due to willing Lille to knock them out) and they were hammered by Lille who missed some glorious chances.

Roma have already knocked out a very good side in Lyon and i expect them to beat Man utd.

As soon as the mancs come up against a team with a top striker they will get beat.

The Chelsea draw is a difficult one to predict because we dont know how Valencia will be punished for the brawl but if its only fines then i can see the Spanish team pushing Chelsea all the way.

Just realised we would have probably drawn Arsenal if they had gone through.

Phew

We must be favourites to beat PSV. Manure should win their game too and Chelsea game will be tough (but give Chelsea the edge, just!)

I'd prefer Milan/Bayarn in the semi but as usual Manure got the best draw in that too.

I think 3 English teams will get to semi.

I can't believe how confident everyone is about the mancs going through. Man U's style of football has been found out and neutralized against Italian sides up to this point. Perfectly content with them being drawn in the same half of the draw as 2 Italian sides. They're not a good European side imo. I mean they lost against Celtic and FC Copenhagen ffs.
