Naming rights of the new stadium

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby hello_red » Sat Feb 10, 2007 9:08 pm

Right ill start off by saying in todays marketing climate the stadium wont get a name like Anfiled or anything like that. It will go down the Arsenal route unfortunatly and get a name to do with the company who has sponsorship rights or whatever, i didnt do a business gcse or owt like that so forgive my naivity on business.

i just want to know what people think the of possibility of a company name being where liverpool fc play there football, and that brings up the argument of is there more to anfield than just atmosphere etc.

i know there is a takeover thread already however i feel this deserves a thread.

Please dont shout at me

Dont see why we have to sell off everything, or are we going to go the whole hog and not have The Kop either or an even better idea lets change the name of the club.

There is more to life than having loads of money

edit -  sorry about the image thingy went abit looped

well i know that, but what im saying is the new stadium is going to be replacing Anfield and its name unless our new owners decide to keep it as anfield or whatever.

its a pity that money rules the roost now but its the way things are. the fact that liverpool has had success while still being a family run club is amazing, a beautiful thing in todays world. however there comes a point when changes happen and its sad, its annoying, but its also wonderful. the fans will be the same, the players will hopefully still play with there hearts. the only difference will be the stadium, its shape, character (or lack of) and its name.

i play bass guitar, metaphor here for you all, when i out grow one bass ie come to a pijnt where i need a better bass for what im going to do i upgrade. dosnt mean i lose out on anything. im gaining. more fans, more atmosphere, more revenue, more success.

The 7- up stadium could be quite fitting since we will have 7 euro cups by the time its built :D. Whoever it is named after will have to pay us a lot of money for the privelage of being the name of the "New Anfield"

Basically, its gonna happen that the new stadium will be named after a sponsor. Get over it, move on. It won't be called something daft, like the Coco Pops Bowl or the Dr Pepper Surgery or something like that. The board arn't that fucking stupid.

I'v got my money on Adidias tbh, specifically because they are the shirt providers to the MLS, which, while I know Hicks and Gillett don't own MLS clubs, would give us more exposure in the US due to the maker and the attempt to 'crack' that market under the Adidas brand. Reebok are also the shirt provider to the NHL, which as we all know are now owned by Adidas, so there is more cross-selling potential there ('See Liverpool at the Adidas Arena!' as the poster would probably say).

Anywa beside that, the 'This Is Anfield' sign will STILL be placed above the heads of the players before they come out of the new tunnel where they can touch it, there will still be a Kop and probably a Main Stand and a Centenary Stand as well. We will probably still call it Anfield despite its name and the atmosphere and the banter won't change either - infact, it'll get better because their will be more of us.

Its annoying me a bit about whats being said from the fans who are saying we should stay where we are etc. It isn't feasible and tbh, while i'm into the old traditions yadda yadda yadda, i'd rather be there to write the new ones. I'll be proud to say "I WAS THERE" on our first game in the new stadium - whatever it will be called.
