Gerrard is the best because

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

SG is the best player in LFC because
1)He runs around for the ball more often
2)He is committed to everything that he does; tackling, passing, harassing etc
3)He wants to win badly. That's why he works so hard.

If only the rest of the team performs as much whole-heartedly as SG, he need not work so hard to win. The rest of the team can really lighten his burden by playing as hard.

How you guys think?

If everyone had Gerrards desire we'd have 11 world class players.

Gerrard is only what he is today because of the coaching he's recieved and the fact he himself has wanted to improve to the level he's at. He can still get better.

Theres a few factors on why players are as good as they are.
Desire, commitment and the urge to better yourself are the main ones.

Phyiscal condition is another.

Coaching the third.

The first part imo is about 60% the next two are a 20-20 split.

Credit where credit's due, GH's legacy to us will be a fit Stevie Gerrard. He took care of him and gave him the best treatment money could but to get him over hsi injuries and look what we have now
“It was my first of the season, my last of the season, my best of the season and the one I will remember for ever.”

Erm? Surely "natural" ability helps.
Take your point on self motivation,Keegan was/is a prime example.  :)

How would Gerrard compare with Souness, McDermott, Whelan, McMahon etc. and would he be in the all-time best Livepool 11.

Good Poser there Sean........ Time will tell ultimately if he makes the All time Greatest 11 but probably a little early to say in my opinion. He's obviously heading in that direction.

Souness despite his later troubles as Manager of LFC was possibly the gretsest midfielder we ever had at Liverpool and in Stevie gerard i see a lot of Souness's attributes.........

Natural ability doesn't exsist. Its a stupid myth. Everyone learns different things... everyone has different levels of motivation to improve and become superb at certain things.

If you train and work at something and have a burning desire to keep imoroving something you get better and better.

Practise makes perfect.

Whats natural about Zidane?

I've already said its about desire, practice and approach.

Then theres coaching.

Natural ability doesn't exist.

We could go round and round in circles on this one.
Is desire "natural" or do you teach it ?
Approach ? explain

Are you suggesting the ONLY difference between say Heskey and Pele was desire, practice and approach ?
How about Zidane and Dennis Wise ?are you telling me with a different coach more practice and a different approach (whatever that means) Dennis Wise could have been Englands Zidane ? .
