Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Reina 6 -  Palmed down a long shot nicely in the first half but other than that looked a bit unsure of himself most of the time. Could have given away a goal with a couple of dodgy punches in the second half.

Finnan 7 - Solid defensively, back to the form he was showing all last season, got a couple of decent crosses in as well.

Carragher 7 - I thought he let Kone run to far when he ran from his own half to hit the bar, lack of pace letting him down. Other than that a good performance from the captain.

Agger 8 - Faultless, dealed with everything that came his way all game, contender to start against Chelsea?

Warnock 6 - Didnt do a lot wrong, didnt do a lot right. Wasnt involved much all game but a decent defensive performance.

Pennant 6 - Didnt get much of the ball either, needs to improve imo

Zenden 5 - Why is he being picked? Never been good enough for Liverpool since we signed him

Sissoko 8 - Broke up everything PSV had to offer (which wasnt alot tbh)

Aurelio 6 - Im not sure about him as a left winger, he doesnt seem to have any overpowering pace although he can put in a decent cross.

Bellamy 7 - I hope him and Kuyt start against Chelsea, they seem to have a very good partnership going already, great movement from Bellamy tonight.

Kuyt 8.5 - MoM, was involved in all of our attacks with some brilliant link-up play. Looks to be our best buy of the summer

Reina 6 -  Better performance but still looked shaky, hopefully his confidence will improve.

Finnan 6 - Decent performance from the Irish lad, no major mistakes.

Carragher 8 - Excellent performance from Jamie, showing that he is a world class defender, stopped a lot of PSV breaks.

Agger 7 - Looks a promising young defender, his partnership with Carragher looks just as good as Carra and Hypia's did a few years back.

Warnock 5 - Simply not good enough for LFC gave the ball away and didn't keep it tight enough.

Pennant 5 - Pretty poor especially in the 2nd half, no real quality and even his pace didn't prove very effective.

Zenden 4 - :censored: :censored: :censored:! Zenden playing instead of Gerrard? Well no wonder we didn't win the game.

Sissoko 7 - Solid performance again, but a partnership with Zenden does him no favours.

Aurelio 6 - Average, not sure if he is very effective down the left wing, didn't seem to have the ball a lot.

Bellamy 8 - Lots of pace and obviously a genuine threat, linked up well with Kuyt and that partnership looks to be our best one.

Kuyt 9 - The best player on the park, his work rate is phenominal, created some good attacking moves, hit the post and showed that he has the kind of quality LFC need!

Personally, I'd give everyone a five apart from 3 players. The rest were just average, as a five suggests.

Agger - 7, This lad gets better & better every time I see him, I'm no longer worried about who's gonna replace Sami.

Bellamy - 7, IMO Bellamy's fits in well, the team just hasn't got the understanding of his runs yet. Plenty of times tonight he made some class runs, for the ball to be played the other way. This will come with time.

Kuyt - 8, MOM for me too, I love the way he fights back for the ball, I swear he was further back than our CB's a couple of times tonight. Unlucky with the shot off the post, I see great things to come from this lad.

As I said, everyone else - 5, average performance, didn't look like they wanted to win the game (Stevie excepted, but he wasn't on for long enough. Nice try though)

In my opinion Zenden was :censored: and Kuyt was excellent. Zenden is not a scapegoat, he has just played awful for Liverpool once again!

Reina 6 -  Better performance but still looked shaky, hopefully his confidence will improve.

Finnan 7 - Did his job superbly again.

Carragher 8 - Good performance by Carra. Looks to be back to full fitness. Broke up play and got his head to the ball to clear it well.

Agger 8 - Getting better and better the more I see him. Vital tackles.

Warnock 7 - I thought he gave an alright performance tonight, good tackling.

Pennant 6 - Good first half performance, went missing a bit in the second half as he went in field a bit more.

Zenden 7 - Probably the best performance from Bolo I've seen for us. Put himself about, put in tackles, passing was a bit poor but had a shot that went wide aswell.

Sissoko 8 - Superb as usual. Stuck his foot in, any loose ball was momo's.

Aurelio 6 - He wasn't involved much really. He didn't stand out to me.

Bellamy 8 -  Great pace, it caused problems for Alex, just what we needed. Made good runs and linked up well with Kuyt.

Kuyt 8 - Superb performance from Dirk. Good link up play. Put himself about and was uunlucky not to score himself.

would agree with all of those ratings apart from Zenden. Thought he was poor to be honest. He went missing for virtually the entire second half and was lucky not to be substituted. He dosnt create enough in the middle to warrant a place alongside Sissoko. If he does play centre mid, it should be next Alonso or Gerrard.

Reina 5  Looked unsure and nervous made a few mistakes which we got away with THIS TIME.

Finnan 7 solid defence could have helped Pennant more. Saved a goal with great tackle second half.

Warnock 6 seemed to need a lot of help from Aurelio especially first half

Carragher 7 Not at his best but solid performance

Agger 8 Impressive performance again. We may have another bargain buy here even at £6million.

Zenden 6 not as bad as some have been saying but not good enough

Sissoko 7 Couple of incredible tackles first half. Caught in possession too much before being taken off.

Pennant 5 If you want a player to play narrow and help midfield why play Pennant. His passing was poor and caught in possession too much.

Aurelio 5 looked decent when helping Warnock, looked poor when attacking

Bellamy 7 Good all round performance. Should have done better with couple of chances.

Kuyt 8 M.O.M. hard working, linked well with Bellamy and always looked threatening. Good eye for a clever pass too.

Alonso 7 Best performance so far, hopefully back to his best soon.

Reina - 6 - good display for confidence, clean sheet, few saves made, dodgy punch late on but confidence buliding
finnan- 7- unsung hero of the team, mr consistent
carra- 6- let psv run too much early on, other than that, solid display.
agger- 8- very impressive again, selection problem for rafa. many great defensive tackels, brilliant prospect
warnock 6 - good early on, a few stray passes toward the end. quiet but sound performance

pennant - 6 lost the ball too much in possesion 2nd half, few crosses made, but caused a few problems down the wing.

sisoko - 2,000.0000 - rock of the side at the moment, undroppable with recent performances.

zenden - 7- worked hard all game, was obviously tired in the 2nd half, thought maybe he shud have made way for alonso....sub with chelsea in mind? i think so.

aurelio - 7- more impressive as a winger than left back, looked more confident. didnt cause many problems but dint lose the ball too much. good display

kuyt - 8- very good dispaly, worked very hard, few good efforts. clever running

bellamy - 7 - ran his socks off once again, can ask no more, just need the goal to cap off a much improved dispay from the weekend.

REINA - 7: Better performance tonight and didn't do alot wrong really. Still looked shakey but a couple more clean sheets and mistake free performances and he'll be back to his bet.

FINNAN - 6: Didn't really have that much to do but did look a little shakey and slack in picking up his man on occassions.

CARRA - 7: Looked alot more like his old self tonight and marshalled the back line well.

AGGER - 8: Is starting to establish himself as a quality centre back and the post Hyypia era may not be too far away.

WARNOCK - 6: Didn't have too much to do but looked alot more reliable and comfortable that Aurelio at LB. Should start Sunday ahead of the brazilian.

PENNANT - 6: Was fairly lively in the first 45 and managed to get in behind their LB a couple of times. Tired badly in the 2nd half.

SISSOKO - 7: Typical bustling MOMO performance, tough tackling and even managed to break into the opposition box early in the 2nd half.

ZENDEN - 4.5: Strange pick by Rafa and didn't really do anything in the middle. Not working out at CM.

AURELIO - 5: This guy just doesn't look good enough to me. Hasn't shown anything at either LB or at LM and must surely just be a squad player. Got forward a couple of times tonight but just didn't get any decent crosses in and wasted a coulple of chances.

BELLAMY - 7: His movement was good all night and could have got on the score sheet but for a dubious hand ball decision.

KUYT - 8.5: Did everything but score tonight. Covered every blade of grass and his willingness to work for his team mates will be an asset. His first goal can't be far away.

TEAM PERFORMANCE - 6: Still looking very sloppy in overall possession but the defence looked a bit stronger tonight. A Killer instinct still lacking overall.

This was one of the worst games to watch that I can remember watching.  That patch in the second half where we couldnt hold onto the ball for more then 3 passes was disgraceful.  Alonso came on and helped us alot, we were still very direct but at least we were attacking instead of just losing the ball in midfield.  I am just happy that we didnt concede.
