Player ratings v west ham - What do you think

mmm.... interesting to see how some of the people around here seem to rate players... ! Mostly based on reputation and stereotype imo !

Hyypia put in a great show and deserved nothing less than a 7 ! he misht be a lil slower than he was some years back but it didnt AT ALL affect his game yesterday... even mentioning than when rating him i found surprising !

Aurelio put in an avergae performance, wasnt too impressed with what he offered ! First half... we were attacking like crazy... here's a nice way of putting it... compare him to finnan ! going forward, he wasnt that good despite the fact that he had Garcia playing alongside him in that left flank, mostly. must have opened up loads of space for him to come in and put out some crosses,  never looked like a threat when coming forward !

Alonso was by far our worst player out there ! made some wrong passes, looked out of shape, couldnt defend as well as he should have, was caught out of position.... i really dont understand why you wouldnt want to acknowledge the fact that he had a lousy game.... never said he wasnt a good player... one of our best imo, had a bad game though ! Doesnt get more than a 4 in my books for that kind of display !

Garcia was very good, i think i gave him a 6 or a 7 .. i think a 7 is more like it ! his movement off the ball was for the most part what made us look so good when goin forward in the first half ! he was everywhere ! Linking up play as if he was a second striker, and going to the right and left flanks to play as a winger, a good display allround ! had he not given away the ball a few times when he really should not have , i would have given him an even higher rating... good game and was key to our victory whichever way you look at it !

Crouch played a good game and got on the scoresheet . Not much to say about his game, he was solid and played in some good passes to the sides and midfielders... and capped it off with a well-taken goal... a 7 or even an 8 for me !

I am a little concerned about our defense as its now been 10 games since we last had a clean sheet. I realise that we havent had a settled defence for the last couple of games, and yesterday Momo's absence was exploited by W.Ham, but even so it is a little worrying.

What do you think Rafa should do when Carragher is fit again? Drop Agger, Hyppia or make Carragher wait? I would like to see Agger get a decent run in the first team, but with vital games against Everton, PSV and Chelsea coming up it may be better to play safe with the experienced pairing of Hyypia and Carra.

i think hyypia and carragher will play and agger will be a sub!
if hyypia is injured, or starts underperforming, agger will  step up and become first pick ahead of him ! Dont see us sidelining carragher after he returns... aaand, lets not forget that hyypia has been preforming real good for us thus far... dont see us dropping him either !

Heh.

Believe me mate, nothing to do with him being from my town, nor reputation. I've been told here in a review of a match more than once that I was a bit harsh with him.

I cannot accept the look out of shape arguement, because I know no coach that makes playing an out of shape player 90 minutes. If that was true  it would have been him, not Pennant the one that was subbed. You just can't afford playing with just one man on front of the defence if that man is not able to cope with all the defensive work. And Zenden already played in that position, of course with the cover provided by Sissoko and Gerrard. Rafa wouldn't have put to do Zenden the tasks Alonso had to do yesterday.

If we had played with Alonso Sissoko and Gerrard and Riise instead of LG he would have had an easier defensive game than the one of yesterday, and probably all the critics would point out that he's rock solid, but we played Pennant and LG and Alonso had a lot of terrain to cover. IMO he couldn't be caught many times out of position simply because he couldn't afford to lose his position often. When we played last year with Gerrard on the right the times when Alonso went up and Gerrard or Sissoko made the cover were countless. I would like have seen Sissoko in yesteday's game with his positioning and then see how much the people missed him.

Not his best game certainly, some mistakes in some passes, could of course defend better sometimes, if I was to give a number it would be something about 6-6.5 tops. But "3"? I have never seen a fecking 3 even in Morientes darkest afternoons. :) and I've definitely seen worse games of Alonso last season. Yesterday's game was a very complicated game for him.

I dont agree with the crouch rating, the only thing he did was score the winner, everything else he did he seemed to f.uck up, he had his head in his hands every 30 seconds

Agger was MOM for me, even without the wonder strike.

Defended exceptionally. Sublime and comfortable on the ball. Great short and long range passing.

He's gonna be some player for us.
