Not that kuyt struggled, mind. ???

Some of these ratings are laughable, you can't give Crouchey an 8 just because he scored the goal, and Aurelio a 5 who was much better for the duration.

100% agree. I thought crouch was shite up until he scored the goal. Then he was taken off 5 minutes into the second half. Aurelio deserves at least a 7.

Yeah i was going to mention crouch, he f.ucked up everything he did up until he scored, no way does he deserve such a high rating just because he scored the winner, and i thought aurelio had a decent game

good to see that kuyt made a fine debut. I believe hat he and bellamy are better together than bellamy/crouch. Crouch is very limited in his play

Although Robbie Fowler has done a lot for us in the past, he is our poorest striker.

We havent got a poorest striker, they all have their qualities, we have fantastic options up front this season

Well put but you're wasting your breath with that one.  :D

Early days yet for Kuyt but I was impressed with his first showing. Looks strong and seemed to find a bit of space for himself. I have only seen Motd but he seems to have made a good start from the little it showed.

I thought our defence looked shakey at times. Hyypia's influence has declined a bit as he's no longer as commanding as before. Aurelio is never a left back and I hope Riise or Warnock recovers in time for the derby game. Overall, we looked good in attack epecially when Kuyt came on. Pennant and Gerrard had a good game and things can only improve from here.

Train more on our defensive work and everything will work out fine. With a more stable defence, the players would have more confidence to attack. We're getting there, slowly but surely.

Firstly Robbie Fowler is all class and still a wonderful player and still offers a great deal to the team, he knew and the fans knew that when he came he would do be playing every match. the man is a natural goal scorer, what more can u say.
As for Kuyt looked great i think, cant wait to see him more and more and develop some partnerships, you could see he was trying very hard to impress infront of the home crowd chasing every ball. Defence this season seems to be a bit of a worry and hasnt looked up to scratch, but its more down to carra and hyypia gelling with agger and this will come hopefully sooner than later.

Crouch apparently didn't do a great job, but if he scores the winner, what rating has he? it's difficult to put a number to performances.

that's why i love you sabre  :p  :D

Reina - 6 - looked good but their goal was embarassing
Finnan - 7 - teamed well with Pennant
Hyppia - 8 - (MOM) Solid in defence
Agger - 8 - Awesome Goal, Solid in Defence
Aurelio - 6 - Good hard Tackler, lacked a bit of Discipline
Pennant - 7 - Looked good when he got in behind defence
Alonso - 4 - Very Quiet. Passing lacked quality.
Gerrard - 7 - Not a bad performance, below his best though
Garcia - 6 - Set up Crouch. Wasted a lot of the ball.
Crouch - 8 - Looked solid on his feet. Well taken GOAL.
Bellamy - 6 - Unlucky. Should CALM down

SUBS

Kuyt - 7 - Involved in everything. Should Have Scored
Gonzalez - 6 - Still needs to get up to speed
Zenden - 5 - Not on long enough really.

All right, some people around here need seriously buying a season ticket of his local team in the neighbourhood and watch some matches.

Saying that Alonso is not at his best might be accurate, but reading not from one but several posters ratings like "3" or "4" makes me wonder if the people rate the players only when they have the ball.

Yesterday we played a very very attacking formation, with people like Luis Garcia on the left, and Pennant on the right, who's best virtues are not in the defence and pressing. Gerrard made an excellent match both attacking and fought well when he didn't have the ball. But if you have that two wing men, you are playing 2 strikers, and Gerrard is near the oposition area often, can anybody of the "sloppy" Alonso or "lost at times" explain me who gave the balance to the midfield so that we won the battle in the middle?

You tell me. ??? ???  "Very quiet game" *sigh* It was indeed a very complicated game for him, and he was not superb like Gerrard, but he had his merit. Acceptable game IMHO.

Luis Garcia tried but he deserved the bad ratings, a lovely final ball to Crouch is not enough to say that he had a good game. Fabio Aurelio was ridiculously criticised by the commentator, when the left wing was the most active in the first half mainly due to his job.

Pennant is good, but he couldn't shine. Yesterday he wasn't helped sufficiently both by the team and Finnan. In the first half too many early cross ins from not deep positions, we should ellaborate more our plays and seek Pennant better.

Agger keeps impressing me.

Reina I agree with.
finnan i agree with.
Sammi and agger I agree with.
Aurelio deserves a 7.
Pennant I agree with.
Alonso deserves a 6 -  he only made 2 bad passes.
Gerrard I agree with.
Garcia deserves a 5, he gave the ball away and wasn't in the game at all until he set up crouch.
Crouch is a 6, he was awful until he scored, then only played for another 5 minutes.
Bellamy deserves an 8. He ran his socks off today and his goal should have stood.

i agree with the bit about bellamy he realy did deserve to score and the linesman wasnt helping atall.

My take.

Riena: Obviously at fault for the goal, where his faulty positioning was compounded by a rare lack of spring and then weak left hand. Did really well a few minutes later though when playing the sweeper role and rushing out. As long as he continues to have dodgy games against West Ham only he'll do for me. Though he was at fault for it, the goal was a fluke and nothing to worry about 7/10.

Finnan: Thankfully him and Pennant seem to have sorted out their communication problems and both of them attacked and defended as a unit. Good solid game from the right-back who may be the player who racks up most games in a red shirt this season. 7/10.

Hyypia: Worries me a little bit as we seem to be holding a higher line even than last season this term. Having said that the zones looked better and he was never embarassed, cleverly using his experience to make up for a lack of pace. 6.5/10.

Agger: Continues to improve and is beginning to look like a steal for the money given he is twenty one years old. He really is a footballing centre-half who in terms of his creative side is out of the very top-drawer. Defensively he's not quite there yet but gets better every game. Fantastic goal and it says something about his ability on the ball that I wasn't that surprised. 8/10

Aurelio: I actually don't agree with one or two posters who have said that he was out of position for the goal. When an attacker runs accross the line like zamora did it's natural to tuck in and make the passer and the attacker go on your outside. I think he did the right thing, closed down the cross OK and was entitled to expect his goalkeeper to deal with it. I think he's a very good player who will only improve. Another good free-kick but he has to be careful with his "drawing the foul" tactic in English football. Some referees wouldn't have given the foul against Harewood and then he'd look silly. Good performance though. 7/10

Pennant: Continues to impress and looks to be gaining in confidence. Sofar I like him and think we are seeing something close to 70% of what he can be. I'd still like to see him provide more of a goal threat but so far so good. 7/10

Alonso: Some of the criticism of Xabi has been way over the top. It wasn't his best game but was by no means a poor performance either. Solid and happy to let Gerrard take the plaudits. 6/10

Gerrard: It amazes me sometimes when you see Gerrard given marks like 6 and 7 for a performance like that. He was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch, with one pass out to Pennant on the right-wing absolutely sublime in its execution. All our best moments came when he was in and around the action. We should never take him for granted. This time he was averagely unbelieveable. I still, even after that performance though prefer him on the right. 9/10

Garcia: One of my favourite players but little Luis is way off the pace right now and a shadow of the player at his best. He has always conceeded posession cheaply but there has always been flashes of brilliance and razor sharp awareness to compensate. Though a lovely little reverse pass through to Crouch yesterday enabled the big man to get the winner, I thought Garcia was very poor. This make or break season for him at Liverpool has not started well but I still think he'll come good. 5/10

Crouch: Once again I think some are overreacting. Sure a few of his layoffs to Bellamy were a bit off but the understanding will take time. Took his goal very well and continues to be an important part of the team. 6.5/10

Bellamy: I thought he was excellent. During the period of the game around the half-hour mark Bellamy went through a period where he chased half a dozen totally lost causes and got the crowd going. I felt this was a crucial period of the game because it was just drifting away from us at the time. it was nice to see a player other than Gerrard grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck for once. Though all the offside calls were probably correct, on another day he could have been given on and scored a couple. Extremely annoying performance for the opposition fans therefore a top performance for us 8.5/10.

Subs, Gonzales: Well he's certainly willing to track back and made a couple of timely tackles in his own last third. Unfortunately on almost every occasion it was he who had lost posession the first place. There is certainly more to come from the Chilean but my own feeling is that we won't see it until next season. An improvement on Garcia but not by much. 6/10.

Kuyt: well he certainly put to bed all those memories of an ineffective World Cup. A brilliant debut and further proof that when Rafa goes big, he knows his onions. Will obviously be a huge player for Liverpool. Anybody wants to give it "well it's too early to say" and I'll argue with them till the cows come home. 8/10.

Zenden: No comment.

There you go, a good performance all round I thought.

Now that's a good rating. Except for Finnan, who I liked more other days, I pretty agree.

The key IMHO, was that he stepped up just before Zamora crossed and that alongside the fact he didn't expect to be a shot, surprised him. A mistake yes, it was. But not that surprising, it happens relatively often.

One thing I don't like though is that he keeps commanding to the Spaniards in Spanish in corners and set pieces. He was yelling to Alonso to correct his position. Might be an advantage at some point if the oposition do not understand you but, we Spaniards are too local sometimes. :)

The pass to the right you comment, I repeated it three times in the video of the match I downloaded. Should be shown in every English school to the kids. The quality of the video didn't allow me to enjoy the full extent of the touch, but I think it was with the exterior part of the boot. A joy to watch.
