What I don't like about ratings is putting just a number, it would be more appropiate to comment about the players more extensively. I think that it makes no harm to analyse individually the players in a thread, as the official match thread is quick and full of one liners, but rating itself, saying "he got an 8" is a bit arbitrary.

Crouch apparently didn't do a great job, but if he scores the winner, what rating has he? it's difficult to put a number to performances.

I agree with u Sabre - the numbers are pointless, it is the comments that make threads such as these worth reading.

I think most posters are pretty fair with their comments, but I'll disagree on Garcia - I thought he showed today just what he adds to the team - very intelligently set up Crouch, some good runs and he doesn't mind working hard when he needs to.  The only thing missing was one of those wonder headed goals he gets whenever he is being marked by someone twice his size!

I suspect Garcia has been rated not on today's efforts, but on the stereotype of him as the 'wasteful trickster'.  Its like when you buy a new car - suddenly you see the same make and model everywhere, whereas before you've never taken notice.  Everytime one of his flicks doesn't work, or a pass goes astray, people nod their heads and say 'typical Garcia'.  When someone else does it, the comment is 'ohh, that was so close to opening up the defence, unlucky!'  I thought today that he was no more guilty than most in losing the ball, and what he did offer (a relatively easy goal to Crouch being the most obvious) was important.

From my own player rating thread:

Reina - 6 Not a typical Reina performance. Although not totally his fault, he blundered for Zamora's goal, but fortunately looked more composed in a the second half.

Finnan - 8 Consistent game for Finnan. Put West Ham's left flank in his pocket and supported Pennant well up front.

Agger - 8 A superb stunner from the Dane but could have improved more defensively. Would like to see him make the step up to be Hyypia's permanent replacement.

Hyypia - 7 A decent defensive display from Hyypia. Handle most attacks by the scruff of the neck but looked a bit nervous without Carragher's presence.

Aurelio - 7 A good performance deputising for Riise at left back. Thought he looked particularly shaky in the first half but picked up himself in the second. His distribution is a tidbit questionable at times.

Pennant - 8 Energetic display in right wing, causing West Ham's leftback loads of problems. Quality of crosses can improve.

Gerrard - 8 Not the best from Stevie but still by all means dominated the midfield. Can perhaps take more shots rather than being too over elaborate.

Alonso - 6 Looked sluggish for me and distribution was poor at times. Seem to not be able to cope with West Ham's penetration at times with Sissoko's presence was sorely missed.

Garcia - 8 A lively display by all means. Although still looking prone to the lost of possession, his attacking contribution was immense. Great intelligence to set up Crouchie's goal.

Crouch - 7 Good game up front, linked up with the midfield well. Lively movement for most of the game and had a well taken goal.

Bellamy - 7 Very good movement but was dubiously denied by the linesman on several occasion. Should have been clean through for some of his runs. Saw good chemistry with Kuyt.

Kuyt - 8 Looked very lively when he came on, immediately having shots on target. Would have been a perfect debut should he have scored. See a potential legendary partnership between him and Bellamy.

Gonzalez - 7 Ran at the left flank once coming on. Causing the West Ham's defence several problems but giving the ball away easily on several occasions.

Zenden - N/A Not enough match time.

U got me there i scored crouch 8 because he scored the match winner, but to be honest i dont think he was mom. I would give it to Sami Hyypia so i should have scored him higher, so thanks for highlighting that for me.  :D

I think LFCland gives a good--free-- service actually. I'm no longer an e-season ticket holder, so I was glad to get the Kuyt interview there. Of course, this is far better as a discussion board--but I can't see any reason for the level of invective in the above post!

I think the Bellamy/Kuyt partneship will be our best strikeforce.

Although Robbie Fowler has done a lot for us in the past, he is our poorest striker.
