He'll still get my support , but with only 11 goals in 147 games and the price possibly rising to £8 million,he's gonna have to up his game  .

well i was very nervy about signing pennant...but we do have so much pace now, something that we lacked last season and should be a great force as a team.

we have everything now a team could want.

A solid goalkeeper and defence

Great attackign midfielders which can score from distance (gerrard, kewell, alonso, garcia, riise and gonzalez)

Speed going forward in Pennant, gonzalez and bellamy

Great passers of the ball (alonso, gerrand and fabio)

Defensive midfield players (sissoko, alonso and gerrard)

and very intelligent forwards ( fowler and crouch)

with the money we saved on alves we can put a bit more cash in for a top forward, espessially if we get rid of the deadwood(traore, diao an dudek maybe).

I have heard we have put in the 10m feyonoord wanted for kuyt also.
*lets bring the samba to Anfield, Fabulous Aurelio*

can anyone confirm how pacey Pennant is. I have not seen him play that much - but who in the premiership does he stack up to pace wise, presumably not henry/robben, but duff/reyes type??

The lad is quick and can beat defenders, he also has quick feet, he's quicker than Reyes or Duff imo  :)

Yeah cos a right wingers main requirement is to score goals...you sound like SSN, they do the same, they would get a defender then look at him based on his goals per game ratio, they were doing it before with pennant. Its not his job to get shedloads of goals, thats what strikers are for. But i will admit the price is too high and he will have to improve his game

Cool Hindsight Luke

Let's not worry about the price.
The lad has always had potential, scoring a hat-trick in his Premiership debut is no mean feat.
Wasn't Shearer the last to do that?

I like the fact we've added another English player to our squad.
Got nowt against the imports but it balances it out a bit.

blues fan here

Just though i'd say damn first as i believe jermaine would have tortured championship defenders.

Alright he may not be the complete player, but i believe with a bit of pressure being taken off him for having to do our attacking work and being around better players he could really be a great player.

Hes got pace, good agility and a great cross and for someone like crouchy up front it could really work well, i reckon in a year he may be playing for england.

Anyway good luck jermaine and cheerio lads

Hey mate, thanks for the insight, hopefully pennant can live up to his slightly inflated price tag here and be a success on the RW, he wasnt my first choice by a long way but im sure he can do well, hes a decent RW. Good luck with your season and good luck with gettin promotion back to the prem

Don't get too concerned about the price possibly going up to £8m. If he does end up fulfilling the requirements that would activate these payments (England caps, 100 appearances), then he'll obviously be at a stage where he's good enough for LFC.

The sell-on fee that Arsenal attached bumped the price up, but that's fine. Rafa's been quoted as saying that there are two players hopefully on the way by next week, and if he's splashed £6.7m on one of them, then he's clearly convinced that he's got enough cash left over to bag whoever else he's after.

Welcome to the club Mr Pennant. Any nonsense, and you'll have to explain yourself to Mr Carragher and Mr Gerrard. :D

Seriously though, I'm pleased we've finally got that problem position sorted. Gerrard is now free to play pretty much where he wants, and it's yet more pace going forward at our disposal. Good day, this. :)

My personal take on the price is....so what?

It isn't my money, thats not to say I don't care about our finances, just that the board/rafa are well aware who they are after (Kuyt or otherwise).  They would know that whatever they pay for whoever they buy leaves them with x amount to find for the next signing.

They don't forget how much they have available to spend (a figure we can only ever guess at btw) and they will know that buying Pennant at the money they have spent will still allow them to buy the next target.

They have shown time and time again that they won't pay over the odds for players or be drawn into bidding wars.  To my mind Rafa believes that JP is worth 7mill or whatever it really is, and if he could have gotten him cheaper - bargain.  He couldn't so he had to pay a figure he thought was worth it.  Simple - If he didn't think he was worth that he wouldn't have bought him.

I personally think he will do a good job on the right for us, and I think we will see quite a lot of him depending on the opposition.

Welcome aboard JP - Ignore the price lad, just play your heart out :blues:
"If Everton were playing at the bottom of the garden, I'd pull the curtains." Bill Shankly

"If we lose the ball up front, if the opposition player manages to get past our forwards, and then get past me, its ok, cos I know Carra's behind me, and they aint getting past him" - Stevie G

great buy if you ask me, Rafa will have him running rings around defenders come the start of the season, as for the price, peanuts (in overpriced premiership terms)
