Saying this he'll probably surprise us now and come and score bucketloads of goals. Im sure rafa knows what hes doing buying him and im sure rafa can see his potential to do well here more than we can so ill go along with it if he's who rafa wants

here here goat..

kyte did nothin in the world cup to impress and i had to keep making sure it wasn't emile in disguise

but i stand in awe of rafa's ability to see a player that can become part of our team and make it stronger

This will no doubt be based on international games he plays, games he plays with up and based on future success with the club.

Goat, mate, do yourself a favour and don't sweat the price...it isn't worth it!

Fact: ALL English players are over-priced (consider it a luxury tax for buying proven Premiership talent)

Fact: Most transfers involve some cash up front, followed by performance-based 'bonuses' so the transfer fee is never the whole story (and that would have been true of Alves as well--it would have been 10-12 million +)

Most Important Fact: We've been trying to sign a right midfielder for the past 3 transfer windows with nothing to show for our efforts but frustration.  We've just signed one, with perhaps enough left over to buy a decent striker to round out an excellent summer of transfer activity!

Things are looking up for LFC, mate...revel in it!!!    :buttrock   :buttrock

Yeah im just thinking about our funds for the striker though, the more we used on pennant the less we have to snap up a class striker

Agreed.  That's why it's vital that we sell Traore to Charlton ASAP (I'd say Diao as well but can we really be that lucky?  :D ) and really start listening to offers for Jerzy.  Perhaps Portsmouth would be interested in him since we're not letting them near Carson?

Yeah we do need to offload some of the deadwood now, hardly anyone has left, im sure its not through lack of trying though, im sure rafa has been desperately trying to get rid of these players but no one will have any of them! Diao will never leave, traore to charlton is apparently only going to be a loan, dudek, kirkland, mellor, le tallec, warnock, no one seems to want to take any of them off us. Hopefully we can get them out somewhere, anywhere, and get some more funds

Relieved as I am to finally get a r.winger, we have paid way over the odds if the rumoured price in excess of £6.7 million is true. Premiership proven with a dodgy character is just as much of a gamble as a player proven in europe with a good mental attitude and character(Alves) I am happy we have signed a young talented player but very unhappy at the price.(Hopefully like with Crouch Rafa will prove me wrong)Pennant was bottom of my wish list but now hes going to be wearing the red shirt he will get my full support. Pennant for England now :D

You can only judge a player on his price tag after he has played for your club, Everyone thought Kewell was a 5 million pound bargain, same with Morientes, but neither lived upto there price tag although Kewell has done a lot to repair some serious damage to his reputation.

Fact is, is that teams knew we was desperate for a right winger so they was always going to bump the price up, even more considering Pennant is English.

If Pennant is still here in 5 years time we will be saying how great a buy it was for someone young, english and talented. Use Hamann as an example, 8 Million we paid for him at the time and who thought he was worth it, considering he signed with the reputation of being a goalscoring midfielder!!!

It does look excessive at the moment but all that could change in the future, we have got a right winger at last, hes english, hes provin and hes only 23, comes with a reputation but he knows he has evreything to lose by fuc*ing up this chance similar and i dont think he will let us down.

Hes got enough pressure on him from the start as everyone knows hes the man supposedly to answer rafas right wing problem, the last thing he needs is the supporters on his back, if we are there for him from day 1 he will appreciate it and im sure it will only make him grow as a player.

He crossed the ball in 497 times last season in the league, thats a hell of a fu*king stat for you, just a shame he had Heskey in the box instead of Fowler and Crouch!

Sky Sports News have this down as an initial £6.7m deal, rising to £8m - if you ask me that is ridiculous!

I know £6.5m is a bit steep but the lad is a decent player, he has played well for both Leeds and Birmingham since leaving Arsenal, he is a natural right winger and like Gary said he crossed the ball more than anyone in the league last year so I'm sure the likes of Bellemy, Fowler and Crouch will be rubbing their hands together (in a Michael Owen stylee :D ), one thing we missed last year was pace going forward and players to running at opponents but with the signings of Pennant, Gonzalez and Bellemy I'm sure that won't be a problem this year

I can't wait for our first game of the season on Sky :)
