Lets say teh speculation is true, God forbid, but were after Crouch, for the no profit sale of Baros??
Is Crouch better than Baros? if any of you have read any of my previous posts i'm dead against this. Both have thier weaknesses an d both , well have little strengths but to think gainig 7 or so mil for Baros to then by Crouch...IT'S Shocking!

baros is better than Crouch, though I think crouch would be happier to sit on the bench a few times. No way we should be buying crouch anyway.

baros is twice the player of crouch,as for buying crouch i dont think so,something tells me dirk kuyt will be a lfc player soon.

if were going, to the best of my knowlegde be using 4-5-1 formation for the majority of matches should we really be spending a 1/3 of our money on a striker? I'm not disputing how good kuyt is. I'm of the impression he's class but we do have other positions which do need to be addressed, most notably the wings??

We need a top striker. I honestly can't say if kuyt will turn out to be just that, but we do need someone new there.

I would never spend 7 mill on him but Crouch is the sort of player we could do with. We have Fernando and Djibril up front, world class strikers, Crouch off the bench would be superb I think and add something different, more different to Baros although somewhat paradoxically I do believe baros is the better player in his own right. We'll see, I agree other positions are more urgent but I will trust Rafa's judgement.

I think i would be inclined to keep the 7M and put it towards a better prospect.

Banga man, not trying to diss you off, but don't you think we have been done in by the previous regime for his tendency to buy "prospects" (the next Zidane etc.) by the dozens who do not actually represent bargain buys but end up reducing the squad in mediocrity?

Should we take this risk? Perhaps we should try to establish a strong squad as immediately as possible (with the cash windfall from the CL) and then buy the one or two prospects and groom them for eventual roles in the first team. Besides, there are very few managers who are as good ad Wenger when it comes to prospects (his record speak for itself, but then even he has had failures) like Anelka purchased for a mere 500k if I am not mistaken and the likes of Fabergras, Flamini etc (he has had failures also).

Arsenal can afford to blood these prospects early into the first 11 because they have a better quality overall than us. We need a strong first 11 first.

Baros can go and should go but I am not entirely convinced yet by Crouch although he has had an outstanding season.

Is Crouch really that bad? Or is it that he just dosen't look the part? He seems remarkably good on the ground for someone his height.

Crouch has had a decent 2nd half to his season. However im not sure if he is Liverpool quality.

The ONLY thing he has to his favour is height - no pace, no power, no footwork, not goot at running with the ball, does not have a powerfull strike - is that what a liverpool forward should be?

Milan is very moody, i think he would play well off a bigger CF ala Cisse. The cisse-milan partnership could be a golden one if worked well.

IMO you should keep milan and play them both together for the 1st half of the season, cauz if it works its a goal machine.

Arizhmad i wasnt necessarilly talking of young raw talent but i was just saying that money could be used (7M) on a better striker .

After all it is a lot and could be used or put towards a more proven striker like you said.

So i used the wrong word( prospect) i do apologise .when refering to the previous regime about "prospects"(the next Zidane etc) that was GH wasnt it.
So are you saying Rafa doesnt have the eye for spotting young talent ,just coz Houllier made some mistakes you seem very wary of it.
I wouldnt of thought Rafa would put that pressure on players by making such bold comments as Houllier did.

Although I've not been Baros' biggest fan this season he is still in a league that Crouch will never be!!!

Baros is a better player than crouch, no one can really dispute that

However, with morientes and cisse likely to be the preferred strike pairing next season, we need someone who is happy to sit on the bench and has the ability to offer something different from our other strikers when he comes off the bench. Baros doesn't fit this bill, but crouch just might.

To be honest though if we are looking for nothing more than a target man, then why not get Jan Koller?? He's the best there is at simply winning headers and shielding the ball. I'd be more confident with him than crouch. I'm sure he'd be pretty cheap as well. He banged in 4 for the czechs the other night so he's not passed it yet. He'd be a good short term option until we find someone better IMO
