Keane at anfield? - Do we want him?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Not Roy (duh!) but Robbie Keane.  Rumour has it that he's got the huff about being frozen out at Spurs (the arrival of Mido, Defoe seemingly staying etc) and they'd be prepared to let him go for about £6m.  I've always liked Robbie Keane and in a strong attacking team (which we WILL be next season), he picks up alot of goals.  Think he's lost his way a bit at Spurs.  Don't know what our striker set up will be next year but it's entirely possible that Baros will be off and Mellor too at some stage.  That leaves Cisse, Mori, Pongolle back to fitness and ???  He'd be a great guy to use in the Premiership when one of Cisse/Mori are injured/unfit/out of form/tired after big European games etc.  The source on this is today's Daily Mail for which I apologise but I work in the media and see alot of stuff bandied around.  I think he's worth considering, particularly as we'd make more than that fee on Baros.

Robbie Keane is a handy player and i bet Everton wish they bought him and not pie man Beattie....but think Spurs want something like 5-6 million for him which is way too much...i'd have him for 3 million.

I think we could do a lot worse than Keane particularly if Baros goes in the summer which looks increasingly likely.

I don't think he's IDEAL but he could certainly fill a gap but would he be prepared to play second fiddle to Morientes & Cisse?

Keane is unhappy at Spurs because he isn't in the team every week.  I don't think Rafa could guarantee him a starting place....although I think Keane plays best along side a big man like Morientes.

I've always enjoyed watching Keane play and there's no denying he his skillful and very quick but i'm not sure he would be the right fit for a few reasons.

1- Not as prolific as he should be - Gets in postions but often misses the target (similar to Baros in that respect)

2- He wants out at Spurs because he isn't starting. I don't think he would be 1st choice at LFC.

3- am a bit concerned about the number of clubs he has played for in such a short time. Someone with his talent shouldn't really be such a journeyman already. How old is he? 26/27? already played for Wolves, Coventry, Inter, Leeds and Spurs.

Saying that, i love that bow an arrow goal celebration  :D

Keane and Baros are a simlar type of player. Both will score goals but are very greedy and individual type players. Neither of them will ever make it at a top club.

So no.

keane is a better player than baros, keane has a proven interntional record like baros but baros has never replicated it at club level, keane has never failed to score with the exception of inter, keane is labelled as being greedy same as baros but unlike milan keane is aware of where the goal is and will get a shot on target rather than being greedy and running to the corner flag but above all else he can score penalties!!!! owen and gerrard failed last season and baros aint the most clinical, how many penalties have we got out of curiosity anyways? dont seem to be a lot

I'd only sign him on the understanding that he is backup. Don't think he will except that so can't see it happening

Keane is one of those players who really should be a lot better than they actually are.

He's like the gifted kid you played football with in school years ago, the guy who knows he's talented and has all the skills. After a while that kid gets bored of doing the simple things and tries to make himself look even better with fancy step overs, dummies and chips. He does that for a while and gradually he's not the best kid on the pitch anymore.

Keane could be a top player if he cut out a lot of the fancy dan stuff. He needs to know when to vary it. At times he is capable of doing amazing stuff, but he wastes so many chances and opportunities with his selfish "look at me" play.

At a push I'd welcome him as third choice forward, but he reminds me of a Roy Evans type player.

Something aint right about him. I agree with JBG to an extent but theres something else.  I think he can go missing as well during a season as if he aint quite there with the top boys

I think he's only 25 but I've seen him for years. He is a good player but he is not good enough for LFC. A club the size of Spurs is about right.

Being Irish it hurts me to say but I don't think he'd get into a top international team either.

He's capable enough, a good player on his day. Not really sure what he is supposed to be though. Is he a Beardslyesque, creative striker who unlocks defenses with trickery and vision, or is he an out and out goalscorer who be in the top five or six in the scoring charts? Clearly he is no Beardsley (who is to be fair) though he does occasionally do something really inventive and skillful, and also he doesn't score enough goals for a front line striker in my view. We persisted too long with Heskey as a first choice striker who doesn't score, and while Keanne is positively prolific compared to Emile, he wouldn't get us enough goals to make the outlay worthwhile in my view. He seems to be one of those bitty players that may disappear if we had one of those Southampton/Birmingham performances.
It's probably impossible but I'd take Smith from Man U for a similar fee any day of the week.

Keane has had more clubs than tiger woods and hes still only 25.  We need a guy who'll score 25-30 goals a season for us.  For all his tricks Keane won't achieve that......if Cisse settles when he gets back to fitness hopefully he'll be the man.
