The guy is class. He's also scored something like 24 goals in 36 internationals for Spain, in a side where he's clearly always got to play second fiddle to Raul.
But it's more than that, it's the style of forward he is. We need someone who is more of a goal poacher than a fast, free running forward - we've got Baros and maybe Cisse will return next season. We're not signing Morientes on loan, this will probably be a 3-year contract, so we need a different striker to the other two. He'll give us ability in the air, good feet, good link up play and a professional attitude to boot.

It is not a comforting thought to think that "we have Cisse" because apart from being a speed demon, there is little else he can do to improve the team. Not much goal instincts, lightwieght and totally unsuited to the EPL.
Bring on Morrientes, as right now our options are limited.
