Some sad news, Peter Thompson has passed away. Thomo was arguably the most skilful player to ever play for the club, the man was a true legend.

Good player , but miles away from your assessment i.e "arguably the most skilful player to ever play for the club"

Find your comment a bit of a "look at me, I remember this player" it's  trite and disrespectful to the real legends that have worn our shirt    :kungfu:

Sorry Woof but your comments to Yakka seem somewhat over the top and totally inaccurate. I remember Peter Thompson and he was one of Bill Shankly’s favourite sons. He played 416 games, scored 54 goals and won two league titles and an FA Cup during the 8.5 years that he played for the club. Peter was an integral part of Shankly’s team that started a roller coaster of success during the sixties, seventies and eighties. He was a true legend of Liverpool FC Woof and I am amazed that you are suggesting otherwise. He was an extremely skilful player and I can certainly understand Yakka’s assessment. In my opinion Yakka’s comments certainly didn’t lack respect and I am not sure many people would agree with your response.

Thanks for the memories Peter.

Fair enuff,

I wasn't suggesting he lacked skill just don't agree with Yakka's evaluation of him.

Just noticed City will have Arsenal and Chelsea home after their next couple of games.

Huddersfield Vs City
-----------------
Newcastle vs City
Liverpool vs Leicester
-----------------

FEB

City vs Arsenal
Westham Vs Liverpool
-----------------
Liverpool Vs Bournemouth
City Vs Chelsea

Interesting set of fixtures. Potentially City could drop points which could increase the lead. Really crucial we carry on gaining maximum.

I hope Rafa gets something off them lot.

After that lot of fixtures its UCL and then away to oldtwatford.

City have a LOT of games over the next two weeks. Five to be exact. And that will take its toll on them, physically and mentally.

But it's February that will be the make or break month. The reintroduction of CL footie and the pressure of the league will force someone to crack. Hopefully it isn't us

Our game vs Leicester will test the lads nerves. If City beat Newcastle they will be 1 point behind us.

Last season we crawled over the line at the end of the season. Players we're dropping like flies and those that were available looked like they had very little left in their legs. The fact that we only played 2 games across the League Cup and FA Cup will help our league challenge. But I fear that if we go far in the Champions League we'll drop a fair few points in the league in April and May like last season as Klopp doesn't have as many players that he feels he can trust when compared to Pep.

Below is a list of players that Klopp and Pep have used in the league ordered by the number of minutes they've played. GKs and CBs won't be too heavily effected by cumulative fatigue and we've managed to rotate our midfielders quite well, but it worries me that Salah, Firmino and Mane have all played more than each of Sterling, Agüero, Sane, Mahrez and Jesus. To win the league I think we'll need one or two attacking players to step up and have an influence. I wonder if it might be sensible to use Origi upfront in some games with 2 of the front 3 plus Shaq behind him. And also Lallana in the number 10 role from time to time with Firmino up top, with Shaq and Mane/or Salah either side. And if we're going to bring in a fullback, I would much prefer a LB as Robbo plays almost every game.

I know it would be a risk but so would asking the same players to stay fit and fresh right through to the end of the season.

Once you go under 810 minutes our players are fringe at best, City's players are still core players.

Disclaimers:

1. I know we haven't won anything this season.
2. I'm not saying our team is as good as 87/88, it's not.

BUT, We should enjoy this season, we have been brilliant, it's unlike anything we've experienced in 20 years and only rivalled by 87/88 over the last 40 years.

Liverpool league statistics after 23 games:

LAST 20 YEARS
Our points range: 29-48 (this season 60)
Wins: 8-14 (this season 19)
Losses: 10-2 (this season 1)
Draws: 10-4 (3)
Goals for: 28-57 (2014) (this season 57)
Goals against: 32-15 (this season 13)
Top of the table points after 23 games (45-62 - 2018 and 2006)

LAST 40 YEARS
Our points range: 29-59 (87/88) (this season 60)
Wins: 8-18 (87/88) (this season 19)
Losses: 10-0 (87/88) (this season 1)
Draws: 11-3 (3)
Goals for: 27-57 (2014 and 87/88) (this season 57)
Goals against: 37-11 (87/88) (this season 13)
Top of the table points after 23 games (43-62 - 2018 and 2006)

As a reminder our 87/88 team included: Grobbelaar, Gillespie, Hansen, McMahon, Nicol, Whelan, Johnston, Houton, Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge - WOW, what a team!

Top of the table in previous years after 23 games: 62, 56, 47, 53, 53, 56, 54, 48, 53, 51, 53, 57 etc.
