STEVEN GERRARD - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Gerrard was brilliant on Wednesday night ,but he always is when he's up against an ineffectual midfield ,and Norwich made even Sterling's
contribution look passable ....I will say Gerrard did challenge for a few loose balls ,which he has recently had an aversion to doing.

Anyway a good solid performance and he didn't hide in the second half .......which I suppose is a plus .West Ham next and a midfield far more
capable ......Judgement reserved until such a time.

Hopefully he isn't badly injured and was taken off just as precaution.

he definitely pulled something, but lets hope it's a slight strain and nothing else.

Can't afford to lose him too. Hopefully it isn't anything serious and will be fit for next Sunday.

If the truth be told ,Gerrard was on the periphery of this game with a virtual plethora of over hit shots and misplaced passes well before he
suffered his subsequent hamstring injury. I actually thought Liverpool were far less disjointed and played some good possession football
when he left the pitch.......I actually believe (albeit from Martins OG ) we pretty much dominated proceeding with Allen pushing forward
from there on in.

Anyway hope the injury's not too serious ,and he's back to fitness soon ,because we wouldn't want our midfield playing short quick decisive
passes ,and looking organized enough to win the odd tackle...Heaven forbid we should revert back to playing that tiki taka shite again  ???

Seriously though ,Rodgers has said its definitely a pulled hamstring ,so lets hope he's rejuvenated when he eventually returns.

Looks like he's pulled a thigh muscle but will be out for only 2 days. Nothing official though.

not good if we are missing him for a month
from bascombe
Liverpool fear that Steven Gerrard will be forced to miss the crucial festive fixture schedule after suffering a hamstring strain.
Gerrard had tests at the club’s training ground on Sunday, but the early indications were not promising with the possibility of at least a month on the sidelines.
That would rule Gerrard out of fixtures with Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester City as Liverpool seek to preserve their top-four position.
Gerrard was hurt in the 55th minute of Liverpool’s 4-1 win against West Ham United on Saturday.

Gee we couldn't make it any harder on ourselves.  :no

It will be a miracle if we get any points from the Tottenham, Man City or Chelsea games.

At least we will see what Allen is made out of in the next month or so.

The absence of Gerrard is going to have an effect on the squad selection but it won't be all bad news. I think without Gerrard you will see Coutinho move back into a more effective central role.

I suspect the midfield will look something like -

        Allen/Lucas      Henderson

Sterling           Coutinho          Moses

i didnt want gerrard out of the team in any circumstances, gerrard will actually be a loss atm.
away from home against the better sides i would have liked to have seen a midfield trio of allen, hendo and lucas play behind a front 3 of suarez, coutinho and sturridge, that way i think we`d be able to play a high energy pressing game high up the pitch but still have enough quality in attack to hurt teams, i think that would have been a good balance between defence and attack.
but there`s no doubt though that with sturridge and gerrard both out there`s going to be a tilt of that balance away from quality towards being a bit too much workman-like.
sterling did okay saturday but i`m not convinced he`ll bring anything to the table away against spurs, city or chelsea so that puts a hell of a lot of pressure on suarez and coutinho to conjure up something.
with sturridge being out losing gerrard is a blow.

if he does miss those games then one way or another it will settle that debate  :nod
he's a big game player and we will miss the $hit out of him for those games. not just his assists or an odd goal but his influence and leadership on the field.
allen and hendo will have the energy to press harder but against spur's, chelsea and city i fear it could be one big game of piggy in the middle.
gerrard has been an ever present fixture in the side and i feel he has played too many minutes, he could have done with sitting out the odd game imo, but this injury couldnt have come at a worse time for him and us.
i hope that month is a worse case scenario and we can get him back for at least the st stephens day trip to the etihad.

even with gerrard in the side we were totally outplayed by arsenal`s and everton`s midfield and infact he was partly at fault for goals in both of those games when he let cazorla run off him and didnt pick up mirallas. that big game player you are talking about isnt there any more i`m afraid.
