While he waits for Ryan Taylors Lawyer to impose the restraining order , he's busy composing eulogies to Michael Owen ..Or at the very least
the odd sonnet to Dean Ashton.  :D

Our captain , our leader on the pitch, what is his role in our team now....what does Brendan expect from him, what do we as fans expect him to do on the field....

Rest of the team does its job yesterday and he wins us the match 1-0.

Scored probably infinity more times this season than Lucas will already. Set more goals up than Lucas and Henderson will all season already also.

His role isn't to carry players like Lucas and Henderson anymore. He's not upto it. He needs someone in their next to him who'll help him rather than hinder him. :)

While I agree with your view that Lucas and Henderson are just average players and nothing special, don't you think that the team should no longer revolve around Gerrard seeing how old he is?

Not saying for a second it should. But what is clear is he's still miles better than the other options we have and until that is changed then we're going to struggle at times.

If Rodgers has any Sense Cabaye will be of high priority.

Mentioned that weeks ago when we were playing the 3-5-2. Not sure I agree with a right sided centre half in a two though. However, I do believe he could play as a deep lying right back who can come into midfield and help with the numbers. You'd also be able to get alot out his crossing from that position... he'd need a midfielder infront of him who can attack properly to provide width.

he doesnt win enough tackles though does he, aerially he aint that good either so i dont think he would be suited for it. yeah he can pass from the back out but surely no 1 priority for a CH or FB should be defending.
not that having him around would be a bad thing but i think he'd be better suited as a coach.

Disagree he doesn't win enough tackles. He's one of the best tacklers in the team. The problem he has always had is his positional play (from a midfield point of view) and his reactions to pressing a ball and getting close. I think one on one, anyone that can consistently take a ball off the likes of Zidane, Rooney, Ronaldo and Giggs has proven over the years he's excellent in that situation.

He also still has that short burst of pace which would make him difficult to beat in wide areas. Players who can dribble through the middle of the pitch and players that dribble out wide do so in very different ways. I think Gerrard's defensive style and tackling is alot more suited to defending against a winger rather than a central midfielder.

his tackling rate is ok for a midfielder but not for a CH, he would need to win far more tackles and aerial duels than he does from midfield and against big forwards he would struggle.
do you think he has the legs for R.B, he can read a game but that wont make up for the loss of speed. to utilize his crossing he would have to cover some serious ground.
if anything stu id push him forward on the R.W, his burst of pace just needs to pass one man and cross or cut in. that way we can put others in midfield to do all the running and tracking for him.
even though he has lots of assists and a few goals from deep i think he would have much more impact higher up.

Looked so much better today than when playing next to Lucas.

Gerrard was excellent yesterday.
But to be fair he is in games where we dominate. It's the games where we are on the back foot or put under pressure quickly where he and we struggle.

I agree with Stu though, the other midfielders dont help him. The lack of quality and movement I mean.
I'd have Allen over Lucas in my team but we still need better than him if we are going to challenge the top sides.
Cabaye would be an excellent signing but Newcastle are not the easiest to negotiate with price wise.
