And if Agger ends up on the injured list again or Skrtel gets crocked, BR would then cop it sweet for not in  bringing suitable cover

skrtel and agger are in their prime, they are in their late 20`s, sakho is still 5 or 6 years away from his prime.
plus lets not forget that agger and skrtel looked very shaky last season especially against big, strong, physical type center forwards, we need a defender like sakho on our books.
re money, no way is bringing in a powerful CB who is good in the air a waste of money. we may have over paid by 2 or 3 million but in the grand scheme of things when you consider the money we`ve wasted over the past few years what we over paid on sahko is very small beer indeed.
we poured more money down the drain than that on loaning sahin.

Basically, every one of you has just defended spending £17,000,000 on a back up.

I can't get my head around it, qualtiy players like Lovren are moving around in the £10,000,000 bracket who would come in and actually improve the side and everyone on here is banging on about it being good business to pay a ridiculous sum of money for someone who can't?

Plus, he is only 23 years old which is very young for a centre half.

Lets give him a chance.

Ahh the famous "give him time arguement".

Sahko, isn't better than Agger, Skrtel or Toure. Time isn't going to make him better than those three. How is it good business?

I agree that Sahko isn't better than those three at the moment but I will never understand your persistence that a player cannot improve.

Skrtel is a prime example of this. He was dire at least 2 of the seasons he's been here.

And funnily enough, he's still not good enough now. What does that tell you?

you're acting like a div because you can't accept he has improved. Just like many players are capable of, including sahko. In fact some players can develop into world class players. Gareth Bale being a prime example. Although I guess you always rated him...

i think thats a bit harsh mate, last season we were desperate for a CB who could head the ball, practically everyone was in agreement that it was our number 1 priority.
skrtel had lost form and was heavily linked with a move to napoli and even aggers future wasnt certain.
sakho is a good player and a player with his best years ahead of him, infact he didnt do much wrong when he was in the side.
i dont consider him a waste of money at all.

And the fixtures haven't been too harsh on us.

But the thing is, we''ve played 11 games.  We only have 8 more games to play until we've played everyone.
3 of them are big teams
1 of them is Everton
4 are small teams

In theory we should be able to judge our position a bit better on January 1st.
If we're still 2nd in the league and saying things like "we are were we should be" at that point, then surely we've made progress and improved.

Rodgers will be judged on his January signing(s) and where we finish due to this at the END of the season not January 1st.

The league usually sorts pretenders from contenders out b/w the Christmas period and late Feb.

This was about the same time where Rafa lost the plot a few years ago and it cost us the title but remember we were in Europe back then.

I agree with most on here in that outside of Coutinho and Sturridge, Rodgers has struggled signing quality players.

Borini is the worst player I have ever seen in a Liverpool shirt for the money we spent and Aspas is shortly behind him.

Rodgers can't have another "off" transfer window, or it will set us years back again and cost him his job.

OK who would you have signed for 17m then?

Sakho isn't world class but I wouldn't say his awful.

Our left back loan from Valencia tho..........  :no

i dont consider him a total waste of money either, we just overpaid for him.
he is our 2nd most expensive defender ever and i expected much better if im honest. at the moment i find it hard to see how he cost more than twice what coates did.
i wouldnt write him off as every player deserves at least a season to acclimatise and gel with his teammates but if he ends up still being a bit part player next season then it will be a waste of money.

Don't get me wrong eds, I don't think he's "awful". But I just don't think he's "that good" either.

Personally I'd rather we'd spent the money on Lovren of Southampton and Sessignon... we'd have had a dribbler who can see a pass, someone who can actually play as a wide striker rather than playing players out of position and a good defender who'll improve the side straight away.

The two of them moved for around £14,000,000. Sessignon is a very good player who can dribble. He doesn't score enough goals but he has intelligence in his play and in the right environment I think it would take his game on another level.

Well, I called it even before he was signed. He was a bit part player in PSG with 1 year left in his contract.
And we stump up a mind boggling 17 million, probably the most expensive signing EVER with a year left on the contract!
A CB who hadn't even played much 1st team football.
Just insane, and even more insane since I saw Sakho in PSG.
Screamed an ok player worth maybe 6-8 million. IF he had more than 1 year left on his contract.
